Using sport to help children overcome poverty, drugs, war and HIV/AIDS. Sport has the power to change the world.
About us
Laureus is a global sports-based charity that works to improve the lives of young people. The first Patron of Laureus was Nelson Mandela. At the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000, President Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope where there was previously only despair.” This has become the philosophy of Laureus and the driving force behind its work. Laureus combines Laureus Sport for Good, the Laureus World Sports Academy and Ambassadors Programme and the Laureus World Sports Awards to form a unique organisation that uses the inspirational power of sport as a force for good. Laureus was founded by its Patrons Richemont and Daimler and is supported by its Global Partners Mercedes-Benz and IWC Schaffhausen.

Oh what a night! As Laureus Sport for Good SA, let us start with the biggest thanks to Leon Meyer and his incredible Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel Team. Without collaborative partners of this magnitude, an important event like this would not be possible for us. We all enjoyed an evening at a stunning venue provided by the Cape Town International Convention Centre, who continue to support us in our fundraising efforts. All of the beautiful items you saw, enjoyed and experienced, where provided by our friends Carrol Boyes Functional Art. To Inhouse Venue Technical Management who ensured we looked and sounded great. A special thanks to our incredible Ambassadors who continue to show up and support us Lucas Radebe, Babalwa Latsha, Desiree Ellis, elana meyer, Graeme Smith & Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, who was also our MC and the glue who held the event together. Also to our deputy chairperson Deshun Deysel Bester who represented us so brilliantly and our Trustee, Iain Banner who did a sterling job of our auction. Thanks to our Chairperson, Bryan Habana, for his message to our guests and good omen for Dricus du Plessis. Lastly, the committed Laureus Sport for Good SA team, who always do the most for our cause. A massive thanks to all who supported the cause by assisting in attending, purchasing raffle tickets & auctions items, with the donations of various item as well as the cash donations. You all supported us in raising an amount R1,5 million Rand. We see you and appreciate you, and this allows us to continue with our #SportForGood mission.
