About us

At LightCode our goal is to make your life easier. We are a custom software development firm, passionate about finding the best solutions to your problems and adding value to your company. As a company, we strive to cultivate a culture of mentorship, where we can learn from each other in a hands-on way. As such, our team consists of experienced veterans in our field, with more than 10 years under their belt in this industry, along with junior developers who have come on board in the last few months. We work together to follow good code practices and encourage each other to keep and follow the best standards. We are open to working with any establishment, no matter their size and firmly believe that we will be able to add value to any establishment, no matter who the client is. We specialise in Fintech - in the banking and payment space. We have also had the opportunity to work with clients from various industries - from Manufacturing to Education. We prefer working on AWS, but also have extensive experience working on Microsoft Azure and GCP.

  • Anti-Patterns This usually happens when you’re transitioning from working with one type of technology to the next and don’t really understand the new technology. It can lead to using the same patterns you used in the previous technology instead of adapting to the new one. For instance - when you move from Sql to NoSql and then treat the NoSql databases the same way as relational databases, and try to normalise all data. Another example would be going from JQuery to Angular, (veterans will know the pain of not having 2-way referencing) and then not using the new features that Angular has to offer. Be sure to understand the architecture, technology or framework you are using well. What are some of the worst patterns you have come across? #softwaredevelopers #softwaredeveloper #devs #antipatterns #Sql #NoSql #JQuery #Angular #LightCode #technology #patterns

  • Some weeks ago I was chatting with a friend about their hiring process, and I explained to him the way that I approach hiring someone new. Normally I start by looking through many CVs and LinkedIn profiles. I look for skills that are transferable. For instance, a React developer should be able to transition easily to an Angular role. Next, I reach out to them and connect over a phone call. This creates a better picture than what I can get from only an online profile or CV. If I am happy with what I’ve seen thus far, I will schedule a peer coding session with them. In this session they must take me through a project that they have done. It could be anything that they are comfortable sharing. This shows me how they think, which is vital. Essentially the main things that I want to find out about are: Curiosity - are they truly interested in their field? Aptitude - do they think like a Software Developer? Their character and attitude will be what holds all of this together. Throughout our interactions I will be looking for that. What has your #hiring or being #hired experiences been like? #hiringexperience #hiringprocess #SoftwareDeveloper #curiosity #aptitude

  • Why "𝙨𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙙"? Simply put, this was the easiest way to get 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲's main message of simplifying software development across. It's clear, to the point and effortlessly precise. This is also the way we aim to serve our clients.  We felt the brevity of the slogan underlines our mission perfectly. How do we solve your software development problems? In the simplest way possible. We have a wealth of knowledge and skills within our team to deal with any potential problems. We aim to uncomplicate complicated situations that require software development. - “𝙨𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙙” #LightCode #softwaredevelopment #Code #slogan

  • When designing our 𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘰, our name, 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲, quite naturally led us to play around with the idea of “light”. In a moment of true light bulb clarity, we settled on the image of a light bulb.   Our main ideas for the logo centre around 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙨 and 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, and as the image progressed - 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙭. The logo features an image of a light bulb. The left half of the light bulb consists of a PC board, and the right half, a normal light bulb. It gives the impression of moving from something complex to something simple, the busy-looking PC board to a more simple part - the plain light bulb. The complex design of the PC board transforms into the simpler design of the light bulb that represents a less complicated, clearer picture and is easier to understand. The contrast between these two parts is accentuated by the colour difference between them. The left side features more blue and the right more white. This colour difference also underlines the complex-to-simple formula, as a picture with more white can automatically be described as less complex than one that features a mainly darker colour.  The light bulb is a symbol of the light 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 strives to bring into every situation that we are given - the light that we bring to the problem we are helping our clients solve. At 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 we want to bring clarity, as light also does, to the situations our clients present us with. #LightCode #softwaredevelopment #logo #businesslogo #simple #lightbulb #light
