For our business model to work, our operators have to have a strong network of collectors in the community. So it’s no surprise that one of our key pillars is community engagement and educating children about recycling plastic waste at home is where it all starts. That’s why we recently visited a primary school in Molweni in Durban to teach Grade 4 students about recycling waste plastic. The children learned how plastic waste is damaging our waterways and oceans and they discovered simple ways to make a big difference, from recycling at home to joining clean-up drives. #Sustainability #PlasticRecycling #Futureleaders

We couldn’t be prouder of the Micro Recycling team Ugwayi Recycle, led by Khulex and Mandisa. For the past four months they have been working to refine their processes and hit their production targets. And in September they did it! We’ve been supporting these two entrepreneurs throughout their journey, developing their business skills, so it is incredible to see them achieving their goals. Well done for your perseverance, resilience and never-give-up attitude. The sky’s the limit from here! #TeamWork #Entrepreneurship #Sustainability #RecyclingInnovation #GrowthMindset

On Wednesday we hosted our October Operators workshop, and it was a fantastic day filled with learning. Our team of operators had the chance to review an exciting new app designed to streamline their processing, followed by a great session focused on what it takes to be an exceptional manager, which sparked valuable discussions and insights. A big thank you to everyone who participated! We are looking forward to more sessions like this as we continue to grow together. #TeamWork #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement #OperatorWorkshop #Lulama

On Saturday, we teamed up with Ukusimama Foundation for a community clean-up at Willowfountain (outside Pietermaritzburg) and what an experience it was! Originally planned for World Cleanup Day the week before, we had to push the date due to bad weather, but on September 28th, everything came together perfectly. Our host with the most was Philile, one of the entrepreneurs supported by Lulama. She’s always been passionate about the environment and the waterway we cleaned is just minutes from her site. Philile did an incredible job gathering 20 eager volunteers from the community who collected a whopping 260kg of waste from the riverbank! A huge thanks to River Cleanup for providing us with gloves and gear, and to Keep Pietermaritzburg Clean and Ocean Plastic Technologies for their support with supplies and refreshments. We couldn’t believe how engaged the local community was. This whole experience was a great reminder that sometimes, all people need is some structure and refreshments to get involved and make a difference. As it is part of our vision to make a positive impact in communities and the environment, we are really looking forward to planning more cleanups like this and building on what we’ve learned!

Our Micro Recycling Pod (MRP) located in Willowfountain, on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg recently turned 4 - and is the longest-operating MRP in our network! Since the beginning this MRP has been operated by Philile Nene and it can process up to 25kg of waste plastic per hour. This MRPs longevity is a testament to Philile’s dedication and the community's ongoing collection of waste plastic. Due to its success, we're gearing for an equipment upgrade as soon as we secure the necessary funding. With newer technology, we can increase the pod’s efficiency and make an even bigger impact on recycling in this area. If you’re interested in funding or part-funding the new equipment for our Willowfountain MRP, please reach out to us. For more information, please call us or email Anat at anat@lulama.earth. #Sustainability #Recycling #CommunitySupport #GreenFuture #WillowfontainMRP #EnvironmentalImpact

We recently started working with Njabulo, a Micro Recycling Pod (MRP) operator who is hard at work setting up his recycling business in Clermont in Durban. Njabulo’s MRP is on site and over the next two weeks it will be outfitted with a state-of-the-art processing line that can handle 25kg of waste plastic per hour. Njabulo is already making waves in the local community building an awesome team of collectors for plastic, cardboard and cans, the three main products he will be recycling in his business. We can’t wait to see the impact this collaboration has for a cleaner, greener future for Clermont and beyond. #Sustainability #TeamLulama #MRP #Durban #CommunityFirst #GreenFuture

We recently held our July Operator's Workshop, which introduced our Operators to Business Plans. Not only did they learn about the various sections that go into a Business Plan and what should be included under each, they were also exposed to various scenarios where this essential tool can be used. A massive thank you to Mia Nel Fourie for her insightful guidance and for joining Lulama's Advisory Board - taking it upon herself to ensure that every Operator (both present and future) will have a top-notch Business Plan. We want to thank and send a shout-out to our technology partner Ocean Plastic Technologies for showing our Operators some of the new equipment that is being developed. Super exciting! #BusinessWorkshop #Entrepreneurship #BusinessPlans #OperatorSuccess #Recycling #Sustainability #CircularEconomy
