In the corridors of power, black female leaders face unique challenges. This year we have seen an upsurge in the attack of black women in positions of leadership within male dominated organisations locally and globally . When we are silent and do not speak up we too become the problem. #womenwholead #blackwomenpresidents Dr Sibongile Vilakazi (MA, PhD, CCXP)

Empowering Women in Politics: A Journey of Resilience and Mental Fortitude In the ever-evolving landscape of politics, women have emerged as harbingers of change, embodying the spirit of resilience and determination. The path to political leadership is fraught with challenges that test the mental fortitude of even the most steadfast individuals. It is a journey that demands not only intellectual acumen but also emotional strength. Last night's conversation with Loyiso Simphiwe Lugayeni, a figure who has navigated the intricate corridors of power shed light on the mental health struggles that often go unnoticed behind the public facade of political figures. As women, our battles are many;we fight not just for our seats at the table but also against the silent stigmas that surround mental health and our mere existence. Our conversation underscored the importance of creating a supportive environment where the mental well-being of women in politics and across industries is prioritized because unwell leaders churn out unwell citizens. It is imperative to acknowledge that mental health is not a sign of weakness but a facet of our humanity that requires care and attention. Here a few nuggets from our conversation : ⭕Silent Battles, Shared Strength In the political arena, women like us face silent battles. These are the struggles that don't make headlines—the internal conflicts where mental health meets political ambition. Yet, it's in the sharing of these struggles that we find our collective strength. ⭕Breaking Stereotypes, Building Bridges Loyiso challenged stereotypes and the socialization of women. She highlighted the power of intersectionality, where the magic happens as generations collide. Young leaders bring innovative perspectives, while experienced warriors offer wisdom. Together, we're dismantling the notion that women must choose between strength and vulnerability. ⭕Support Networks are our Lifelines Our conversation underscored the importance of support networks. These networks are our lifelines, spanning generations, time zones, and political ideologies. They are the whispers of encouragement, the late-night calls, and the shared laughter that keep us going. Let's continue to build these bridges and be each other's lifelines. ⭕Advocacy Beyond Policies Loyiso's passion was palpable as she urged policymakers to look beyond legislation. Mental health is the heartbeat of our democracy, and it's time we weave mental wellness into our political fabric. We must normalize seeking help, and being vulnerable. Leading with empathy is not just a choice; it's a necessity. As women, we have the power to mobilize, inform, inspire, and encourage. Let's use our voices to advocate for change, not just for ourselves but for the generations of women leaders to come. Together, we can create a future where mental health is not a stigma but a cornerstone of our political discourse. #IWD2024 #womeninpolitics #mentalwellness #womenwholead

"... do not dwell on the past.See, I am doing a new thing!" -Isaiah 43:18-19 After downing tools for 5-6 weeks after a life altering procedure I had the privilege of immersing myself in two remarkable events, the Motsepe Foundation GEWAL Summit and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation ##IWD Dialogue, that left an indelible mark on my soul and I now fully understand the perfection of God's timing. My healing journey has resurfaced who I have always been: a leader, an activist and a diamond that is being polished so I may take my place. There was much to learn and these are a few take aways from the weekend : *The Quest for Solutions*: At the heart of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), I joined forces with visionaries, trailblazers, and change agents. Together, we dissected the intricate web of gender inequity that still clings to our new economy. The air buzzed with anticipation as we delved into the very fabric of transformation. *Entrepreneurial Flair and Innovation*: Entrepreneurs, those alchemists of progress, ignited the room. Their flair dictated what we innovate. We scribbled ideas in our purple books fueled by the urgency of change. But innovation alone isn't enough; it's the fusion of entrepreneurial spirit and policy reform that will reshape our world. *Intentionality as Our Guiding Star*: Intentions matter. They propel us forward, aligning our work, dreams, and calling. With intentionality, we forge paths toward a sustainable future. Each step, deliberate. Each choice, purposeful. *Inclusive Conversations*: Azania, my daughter, stood by my side as we stepped into the Thabo Mbeki Foundation's International Women's Day dialogue. The topic was financial inclusion but this wasn't just about urban women or corporate boardrooms. No, we couldn't speak on inclusion while excluding the informal sector—the heartbeat of our communities. *Fireside Wisdom*: The elders gathered, their eyes reflecting lifetimes of resilience. Around the 'fireside', we shared stories—the kind that bridge generations. Without these intergenerational conversations, our solutions remain hollow. Realism and practicality emerge from the crucible of shared experiences. *Legacy and Democracy*: It's not about us; it's about those yet to come and feminism is the highest form of democracy because it shatters patriarchal norms. We must pass down skills, like torchbearers illuminating the path using spirituality and prayer to center us, grounding our activism. *An Unstoppable Movement*: We pledge to form a women's movement that transcends borders, that defies state boundaries. History whispers to us: Women's movements have always thrived, even without official sanction. The time is now. We stand prepared, ready to dismantle inequality and poverty brick by brick. Dr. Brigalia Bam, Mrs. Zanele Mbeki, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe ngiyabonga.💐 #IWD2024 #countmein#inspireinclusion#changemakers #womenwholead #financialinclusion
