Season's Greetings from Makwande Group! 🎄✨ As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the incredible journey we've shared with our clients, partners, and community in driving a circular economy during this year. 🌍♻️ This festive season, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our clients and collaborators for their support in helping us grow our business. Through the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa Industrial Symbiosis Programme, we've helped divert over 335 tons of waste from landfill by turning it into feedstock for the manufacturing of new resources. 🌱🏭 For Nobantu A Mtimde, our managing director, the year started with a trip to attend the WCEF 2024 in Brussels, Belgium. WCEF is a platform that converges multiple multilateral stakeholders committed to driving sustainable growth through a circular economy that #leavenoonebehind. She also participated as a facilitator for World Battery Day 2024 during an intense discussion on critical raw materials and supply chains. Another highlight included supporting the Circular Economy National Stakeholder Dialogue Series which culminated in the first conference of its kind during November. Looking ahead to the new year we are committed to actively advancing resource efficiency and optimisation through the adoption of circular economy principles. 💡♻️ We look forward to achieving even greater milestones in the upcoming year through more connection and collaboration to support South Africa's #justtransition to a circular economy. 🇿🇦🌍 May your holiday season be filled with joy, prosperity, and time well-spent with loved ones. 🎁❤️ #MakwandeGroup #FestiveSeason #CircularEconomy

🌟 November 2024 Highlights with Makwande Group 🌟 As we embrace the new month, we reflect on an inspiring November filled with impactful events, insightful discussions, and progress in our mission to champion sustainability and circular economy practices. Here’s a look back at what we accomplished last month: 🔹 Celebrating Industrial Ecology Day 2024: On the 21st of November, we highlighted the global conversation on sustainability by shining a spotlight on the importance of industrial ecology in driving systemic change and fostering resource efficiency. 🔹 Empowering Entrepreneurs Through Circular Economy Training: On the 21st and 22nd, Nobantu A Mtimde, facilitated a transformative Circular Economy Training Workshop. This event equipped entrepreneurs in the manufacturing sector, mentors for small businesses, and other participants with practical tools to integrate circular economy principles into their businesses in order to help them transition into sustainable and resilient businesses. 🔹 National Stakeholder Dialogue: Nobantu Mtimde participated in this pivotal event, facilitating dialogue amongst key stakeholders to discuss innovative and integrated solutions for an inclusive circular economy in South Africa. The break-away session on Education and Skills highlighted the importance of reviewing the competency frameworks within the educational and knowledge sectors to help ensure increased alignment between the needs of our industries and the skills market. Another key highlight for us was the introduction of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) project to identify a balanced suite of indicators for monitoring South Africa’s transition to a circular economy and to develop guidance for populating each indicator. To find out more or to make your contribution to the indicators, please reach out to Anton Nahman. We are grateful for our team, partners, and community for supporting us in advancing the circular economy during the last few weeks. Together, we can make positive and meaningful strides toward a more sustainable and inclusive economy in South Africa! 📢 Let’s keep the conversation going—what was your circular economy highlight this month? #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #IndustrialEcology #MakwandeGroup

Celebrating Industrial Ecology Day 2024 🌍 Today, Makwande Group joins the global community in celebrating International Industrial Ecology Day, a moment to reflect on the innovative ways we can build sustainable solutions for a better future. As champions of the circular economy, we understand that industrial ecology goes beyond managing waste—it is about reimagining a future that embraces nature based systems, where every material has a value, and our focus is to recapture and retain that value for as long as possible for the benefit of all humanity and our environment. Here are 10 insights from industrial ecology that can inspire our commitment to sustainability: https://lnkd.in/eeGkkgxc 1. Nature as a Model for Industry: Industrial symbiosis mirrors natural ecosystems, where resources circulate efficiently and sustainably. 2. Societies Metabolise Like Organisms: Materials and energy flow within societies just as nutrients cycle in ecosystems. 3. Early Systemic Intervention Prevents Waste: Proactively designing sustainable systems avoids waste before it happens. 4. Location Shapes Environmental Impacts: Tailored local strategies maximise positive outcomes in diverse regions. 5. A Life Cycle Perspective Reduces Burden Shifting: Comprehensive impact assessments prevent unintended consequences. 6. Environmental Impacts Are Inevitable: While a circular economy reduces harm, it cannot eliminate it entirely. 7. Infrastructure Creates Long-Term Patterns: Decisions today shape resource needs for decades. 8. Technology Is Not a Panacea: Sustainable solutions also require behavioral and policy shifts. 9. We Cannot Do Without the Environment: Even in a circular model, ecosystems remain the foundation of economic activities. 10. The Future May Be Anticipated: Industrial ecology equips us to envision and prepare for sustainable technologies and practices. At Makwande Group, we are committed to fostering collaborations that advance industrial ecology in South Africa in order to meet the needs of current and future generations. Did You Know? 🌍 Waste Could Be Your Next Resource! Imagine a world where industries work like interconnected ecosystems—where one company’s waste fuels another company’s production. This isn’t science fiction; it’s called Industrial Symbiosis. Think of it as establishing an interdependent business community where nothing goes to waste—just like in nature, where everything has a role to play. Here’s a mind-blowing example: In Denmark, an industrial symbiosis network shares steam, sludge, and gas among companies, turning waste into valuable resources. In South Africa, the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa has recorded numerous resource collaborations where waste from businesses is transformed into feedstock or raw materials 🚀 The future of South African industry doesn’t have to follow the old, linear path. It’s time to rethink waste, reimagine resources, and revolutionise how we do business. Industrial symbiosis is the gateway to a circular economy, and the momentum is building. Stay tuned for updates on how we’re making waste history. 🌱♻️ #IndustrialSymbiosis #WasteToWealth #Sustainability #InternationalEcologyDay #MakwandeGroup
