Partners | Strengthening grassroots ministries in Turkey Recently, we had the privilege of spending time in Turkey, coming alongside four grassroots ministries to support them with financial management and stewardship training. In a country where Christians make up less than 100,000 of the 84 million population, these ministries face unique challenges in serving their communities. Often led by just one person or a small team, they rarely have access to the resources and training needed to grow into sustainable organisations. Says Mergon’s Etienne Piek, ‘Turkey holds an important place in our faith—it's where believers were first called Christians (Acts 11:19-30)—and yet, the resources available to support faith-based nonprofits are scarce. Together with the Nadace 3WFoundation, we’re piloting a project to support these ministries in building a foundation for long-term sustainability and impact. Our hope is that, as they grow stronger, funders will see their heart and potential, joining with them to bring about greater change.’

Partners | The gift of hope After falling ill, Rwotomiya’s family, unable to afford medical care, brought him to a witch doctor. Terrified by the painful treatment proposed, he fled, ending up on the streets for two years. Life was harsh—he had no hope and survived by stealing. But everything changed when he learned about Favor International's GIFT (God's Institution for Transformation) children's home in South Sudan. After hearing another child’s story of transformation through GIFT, Rwotomiya decided to seek help there. They offered him food, shelter, trauma counseling, education, and discipleship. Most importantly, he found Jesus and a new beginning. Once full of fear and rebellion, Rwotomiya now radiates love and kindness! His testimony even inspired his entire family to follow Jesus. The GIFT programme continues to rescue children from the streets, providing them with care, education, and spiritual guidance. Last year alone, 2,701 children found hope and transformation through the programme.

Partners | Courageous faith amidst persecution ‘Despite the persecution, the underground church in Iran is thriving,’ says Dr. Mike Ansari, president of Heart4Iran. ‘And it is shaping the future of the church in this restricted country.’ This network of courageous believers gathers in secret - in homes and online, finding innovative ways to connect and spread the gospel in a country where openly practicing Christianity can lead to arrest, torture or even death. Estimates suggest that there are currently between 300,000 to one million Christians in Iran, most of whom are part of the underground church. Says Dr. Mike, 'This growth can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the underground church in Iran provides community - a sense of belonging and support to believers who might otherwise feel alone. Secondly, they use social media, satellite TV, and other online platforms to connect and share the good news of Jesus. Thirdly, they are committed to discipleship and training new leaders. Christian leaders in Iran face significant risks, and there is a shortage of trained pastors and teachers. The underground church has taken on the responsibility of training new leaders and helping them to grow in their faith.’ ‘The church in Iran is a reminder that God’s kingdom is not confined to physical borders or political systems. It is a source of hope and inspiration for Christians around the world who face persecution and discrimination for their faith,’ Dr. Mike concludes.

Blog | Transforming complexity into simplicity Two years ago, FiftyFour surveyed a number of non-profit leaders in Africa and the Middle East and asked them to identify what holds them back from growing their organisations’ health. Was it a lack of funding? A lack of understanding...or support...or time? 'The results were surprising. Fifty-two percent identified ‘complexity’ as the greatest challenge—knowing which area of their organisation to focus on and how to strengthen it,’ writes FiftyFour director Ian Conolly. ‘This sense of overwhelm was stopping leaders from taking action, holding them back from growing healthier organisations.’ How did they go about helping leaders turn complexity into clarity and take the next right step? Read ‘Transforming complexity into simplicity’ to learn more about the thinking that has shaped FiftyFour into a trusted guide for growing healthy organisations: https://lnkd.in/dUrZbD44 *FiftyFour is a Mergon initiative.

Partners | Elevating entrepreneurs, transforming lives Ngcwanguba is a rural area in the Eastern Cape where a young entrepreneur’s life and business have been transformed through the support of WORK 4 A LIVING International . She shares, ‘When I joined WORK 4 A LIVING, I already had my own business, but I lacked the skills to grow it effectively. The programme taught me how to scale my business, target and reach the right customers. Today, my business is thriving.’ Her journey didn’t stop at business growth; she also experienced personal transformation. ‘I came to know God through WORK 4 A LIVING, dedicated my life to Him, and began experiencing an inner transformation. Today, I no longer drink or associate with negative influences. Instead, I am reaching out to the young people I used to drink with on weekends, sharing the message of Christ and helping them find a new path. Becoming a disciple maker in my community brings me so much joy—seeing others' lives change just like mine did. I thank God for bringing WORK 4 A LIVING Internationalinto my life. Now, I’m happier, wiser, and even better at managing my finances.’
