Social justice is at the heart of every Meridiam’s project. We work to promote good working conditions, inclusion and diversity, aligning our actions with the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals (UNSDGs) of the United Nations. Meridiam adopted the Taskforce on Nature-rated Financial Disclosures (TNFD), reinforcing our commitment to #sustainability. And since 2022, we have proudly carried the B-Corp label, a symbol of our compliance with the highest standards of #social and #environmental impact. In the occasion of the #WorldDayforSocialJustice , here are a few examples of our projects: -Felix Bulnes Hospital, Chile: 🏥The hospital benefits from broad support in the local community as it is seen as transformational for this very poor area of Santiago. As part of its engagement with the local community, the hospital staff implemented a program to provide support to local women in abusive environments. ♀️ The Project Company is implementing procedures to enforce its ethics policies across its supply chain and service providers. -The BRT project in Dakar, Senegal: 🚍 This innovative transport network not only promotes #SustainableMobility, but also creates 1,000 direct jobs, with a particular focus on employment for women and young people. 👩🏫 Inclusive training programs are in place to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or condition, can benefit from new economic opportunities. ♿ The Dakar BRT also includes infrastructure adapted for people with reduced mobility, guaranteeing universal accessibility. -Sofia Airport, Bulgaria: ✈️ The airport is the 6th largest international airport (2020) in the Central and Eastern Europe region. A personnel optimization process management policy has been implemented to fully comply with lenders’ Environmental & Social standards concerning retrenchment of employees. Today, Purple Line Transit Partners LLC presented a “Beyond the Rails” community grant program check for $3,000 to the Mayor of New Carrollton, Maryland to help fund the city’s Food Forest initiative. The grant will help transform Veteran’s Park into a sustainable source of food – with fruit trees, nut trees, and edible plants – for residents who will live one mile away from the new light rail line.   Speaking with local news station WTOP, Purple Line Transit Partners representative John Undeland said,  “We came up with this Beyond the Rails community grant program as a way to really provide some resources to the localities, to local groups doing good environmental projects, doing good safety projects, school projects — you name it. Things that really make our place, our community, a better place.”   Led by Meridiam, the Purple Line Transit Partners consortium has provided 20 grants to support organizations creating lasting social impact in the Purple Line’s surrounding communities.    Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/evnvXhDM   For more information on the grants please visit: https://lnkd.in/g2tDGpua #forpeopleandtheplanet #sustainableinfrastructure #investingincommunities #communityoutreach

The Fresno State University Campus utility replacement project guarantees energy savings of over 33% as well as a 73% reduction in natural gas usage. Going forward, the project will contribute to yearly reductions of 7,902 tons of carbon and seven million gallons of water. During the project’s underground works, 246 trees were successfully protected. Representing one of the very few long-term developers, investors or asset managers active in Africa, it was great to be in Tanzania to support #Mission300, an event hosted by the Government of Tanzania and supported by some of our close partners on the continent The World Bank, African Development Bank Group, and the The Rockefeller Foundation.  So what happened? In country compact discussions, the public and private sectors exchanged ideas on how to achieve the mission of connecting 300 million people to electricity by 2030. Governments committed to very promising policy and regulatory changes. Now we need to jump on this momentum, not allowing time to lapse between this commitment and our next actions. The private sector is here to support. We'll bring capacity and capability to enable governments to grasp their visions for their infrastructure and energy sectors, where they have sustained political will. To do our best, the private sector needs speed, predictability, and trust. ✅ Other key takeaways were: Strengthening utilities: Many African countries have issues with their national utilities. As the main private sector party on PPAs, these utilities need to boost their professionalism and become more financially robust. Market liberalisation and unbundling should be encouraged. Grid/Transmission: We're finally getting there. After a recent increase in RE projects and related capacity in many countries, and still too few battery storage projects, we're seeing movement on national grid strengthening and connection to regional power pools. These complex and capex-intensive projects are a good opportunity for private sector participation. Bring us in! Gas transition: Most countries showed a realistic view of the RE portion of their energy mix in the next 5 years. That means that gas remains central for a lot of upcoming development. BUT, that doesn't mean we go on as usual. These plants will be operational for decades and their business cases make them difficult to decommission early. We must think from the start about how to transition these assets (e.g. to co-firing) well before their end of life. Otherwise, we'll never reach our emissions targets on time. So good to catch up with many development finance leaders, and see their enduring commitment to the task! Great to connect again with Ajay Banga, Makhtar Diop, Amadou Hott, Rachel Kyte, Woochong Um, Heike Harmgart, Andrew Herscowitz and many others, and to be on the ground with my Meridiam colleagues Khalifa Sarr (pictured) and Matthieu Odoux.

Meridiam is developing, building, operating and maintaining new schools and Further Education colleges across Wales. This Project illustrates Meridiam commitment to build #sustainable social #infrastructure, and to directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#UNSDG's) This project further consolidates the footprint of Meridiam in the #EducationSector. Complementing our projects in the educational sector in Wales, Meridiam already commissioned in 2023, 5 schools and 3 daycare centers for over 4,000 pupils in Espoo, the 2nd largest city in Finland. And we are building in the same city of Espoo, 2 new schools and 2 new daycare centres to accommodate over 1.300 students. #ForThePeopleAndThePlanet
