Celebrating Heritage Day at Metacom 🇿🇦 This Heritage Day, we came together as a team to honour the rich cultures that make Metacom a vibrant and inclusive workplace. In true South African spirit, we celebrated with a braai, where colleagues dressed in their finest South African colours or traditional attire, respectfully representing the unique heritage we all bring to the table. The day was filled with laughter, delicious food, and great conversations as we shared stories of our backgrounds and learned from one another. To add to the fun, we held an award ceremony for the Best Dressed, recognizing those who went above and beyond in showcasing their heritage with pride. Celebrating Women’s Month: Meet Carmelita Africa August is Women's Month in South Africa, a time dedicated to celebrating the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women across the country. As part of our celebration, we are featuring stories from some of our talented female staff members at Metacom. Each story highlights their experiences, insights, and contributions to the company and beyond. Today, we are proud to feature Carmelita Africa, who recently joined Metacom as an SSC Supervisor. 🔹Are there any women who have been influential mentors or role models for you, and how have they impacted your career? "Every day I interact with so many amazing women whom I am hugely influenced by, but mainly I have been inspired and proud of the ladies that have gone through a cancer journey. This is very dear to my heart as a close family member of mine has endured this pain, and I have watched her come out on the other side smiling and happy because of faith and the support shown to her." 🔹Can you share a project or initiative you're currently working on that excites you? "Currently, I am a Supervisor in SSC, and this project excites me because I’m learning every day. Outside of work, I am a mother, sister, friend, and runner. I’m currently training to complete my first marathon towards the end of October." 🔹What type of inspiration do you hope to share with all women in your life? "I aspire to be a positive influence on all women that I interact with and can only hope my interactions are impactful." 🔹What does Women’s Month mean to you? "Women's Month is very special because of Breast Cancer Awareness. Too many women are fighting this battle on their own. I am grateful that we have the opportunity to celebrate ourselves and forever grateful to the women who marched for our equality." Today, we are proud to feature Janine DeGrill, who recently celebrated her second anniversary at Metacom as a Technical Writer. 🔹Are there any women who have been influential mentors or role models for you, and how have they impacted your career? "I am truly blessed to be surrounded by strong, powerful women in both my professional and personal life. These women of all ages possess immense strength and character, capable of fighting like warriors while embracing their vulnerability without fear." 🔹Can you share a project or initiative you're currently working on that excites you? "Working for an IT communications company was initially quite daunting—the terminology and jargon were completely new to me. In retrospect, it was a steep learning curve. Imposter syndrome is a real thing, but once I got stuck in, I was able to scratch around in my toolbox of skills and use my background in Education to get creative, simplify things, and be clear in my communication. Technical writing, as complex as it may seem, is all about teaching and learning." 🔹What type of inspiration do you hope to share with all women in your life? "‘Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.’ Keep filling your own cup; knowledge is something that can never be taken from you. Whether you're mastering a professional skill, learning salsa dancing, or practicing Muay Thai, always keep growing and evolving." 🔹What does Women’s Month mean to you? "To me, Women’s Month is a holistic celebration of all the roles that women play in society. It brings to light the beauty and complexity of being a woman. It is a reaffirmation to honor those who have gone before us, to support and uplift those who walk alongside us, and to nurture and empower the women of the future." Celebrating Women’s Month: Meet Na-eemah Fredericks (Part 2/2) In our continued celebration of Women’s Month, we are featuring more insights from Na-eemah Fredericks, our Field Support Assistant at Metacom. Na-eemah’s commitment to continuous learning and her belief in empowering others truly embodies the spirit of Women’s Month. 🔹How do you empower yourself and the women around you? "Metacom has provided me the opportunity to empower myself by allowing me to successfully complete a project management course, and I’m currently doing an A+ course, with plans to pursue an N+ course afterward. Just when I thought my schooling days were over, I realized that you learn something new every day. With technology changing rapidly, we need to increase our knowledge and skills to overcome the stigma. Knowledge is power, and it’s how I empower myself. Women should uplift one another and stand as one."   🔹What does Women’s Month mean to you? "I never pondered much about Women’s Month until my mom passed away, and that’s when it hit me—mothers are irreplaceable, and no woman can compare to a mother. We give mothers way too little credit. Women’s Month is not just a time to celebrate women, but a daily reminder of how women have transformed the world and can overcome any mission at hand.   FEMALE: FE = iron                  MALE = man   Once I discovered that I am ‘ironman,’ another level of confidence was revealed to achieve anything I wanted to. The internal battles speak to mountains that were moved. The fact is, women are the real superheroes, and the only thing holding us back is the mind and not believing that it can be done." Na-eemah’s insights remind us of the incredible strength and potential within each of us. Today, we are proud to feature Na-eemah Fredericks, our Field Support Assistant, who rejoined Metacom in 2020 after realizing that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side—it’s greener where you water it. 🔹How long have you worked at Metacom and what is your role here? "I started at Metacom in 2020 on my official return after discovering that the path isn’t always greener on the other side; it’s greener where you water it. Even though I left Metacom on good terms to venture out into what I thought would be something magical, it turned out to be just another hoax. I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to become a part of the growth within such a short period. If I hadn’t left, it would have been about five years now, but I definitely had a great comeback. My role is Field Support Assistant, but I contribute wherever I’m needed. Why stick to one role when you can provide your skills and time in other areas too?"   🔹Can you share a particularly memorable moment or accomplishment from your professional journey? "Venturing out into the business world, taking risks when the odds were against me, and realising that less is more. My educational growth has been an enormous milestone and accomplishment, especially when I was my own support structure."   🔹What is one piece of advice from a woman that has stuck with you over the years? "If your ‘dreams’ don’t scare you, they’re not big enough. Consistency is key."   Na-eemah’s journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, risk-taking, and personal growth. Starting at the age of 20 as a support consultant, Inge has grown within the company and is now a Project Manager, continuing to make significant contributions. 🔹How long have you worked at Metacom and what is your role here?  "I have been working at Metacom for 16 years and still going strong. I started at the age of 20 as a support consultant and moved up year-by-year. Currently, I am a Project Manager." 🔹What is your favourite part about working for Metacom?  "The opportunity to grow within my own abilities. Metacom supports me in my personal growth and helps me achieve my goals." 🔹How do you empower yourself and the women around you?  "Never back down from a challenge! Put all your effort into everything you do and thrive." 🔹What type of inspiration do you hope to share with all women in your life?  "Never accept defeat—challenge yourself and show the rest of the world YOU CAN!" 🔹What is one piece of advice from a woman that has stuck with you over the years?  "Always function as the CEO of YOUR own career.
