Funding skills development to build South Africa

About us

The National Skills Fund is a funding entity that reports to the Department of Higher Education and Training. Its primary function is to provide funding to post-school education and training institutions, particularly, to fund occupations in high demand. The NSF funds skills programmes identified by the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP) 2030 as national priorities, and/or are related to the achievement of the Skills Development Act, 1998 (Act 97 of 1998) (SDA), and/or considered to be an activity undertaken by the Minister to achieve a standard of good practice in terms of skills development. In essence, this mandate directs the NSF’s funding towards: 1) Education and training; 2) Post-school education and training (PSET) system support and capacity building; 3) Skills infrastructure development; and 4) Skills development research, innovation and advocacy.
