On the 6th and 7th November, we hosted an impactful Origin8 Programme at Toyota Wessels Institute for Manufacturing Studies (TWIMS), bringing together 22 delegates from 19 Chemical SMMEs across eThekwini. This CHIETA-funded initiative empowered SMMEs to refine their value propositions and tailor their business pitches to meet the needs of large customers. 💡 Highlight of the Programme: A panel discussion featuring industry leaders from NCS South Africa, H&R Group South Africa, and Sherwin-Williams, where SMEs gained critical insights into what it takes to be a high-performing supplier in the chemicals sector. NCS 5101 PA is a high-performance low profile vinyl ester-based infusion resin, especially formulated by NCS for applications requiring superior osmosis resistance, good toughness and improved cure. NCS 5101 PA has excellent low profile properties and therefore minimizes the effect of print through, thus providing an enhanced surface finish. In addition, the low viscosity affords rapid wet out of reinforcements leading to quick processing times. The formulation has been optimised so that only the addition of standard MEK peroxide, such as Butanox M50, is required to achieve a wide range of cure profiles to suit the fabricator. NCS 5101 PA is specifically designed for infusion/RTM processes and is most suitable for marine applications. NCS 5100 series is a premium range of bisphenol A epoxy-based vinyl ester resins, especially formulated by NCS for high-performance and chemically demanding applications. This vinyl ester series is designed to have improved thermal stability and exhibits excellent mechanical strength and exceptional osmosis and chemical resistance, in addition to good toughness. The formulation has been optimised to prevent significant gel time drift, which is typically observed with conventional vinyl ester resins. Standard MEK peroxide, such as Butanox M50, and cobalt accelerators can be used to achieve a wide range of cure profiles with a low foaming system and excellent cured colour.
