Today, the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber had the privilege of hosting the Deputy Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Nomalungelo Gina, for discussions on establishing linkages and partnerships with the Chamber’s Local Economy Reinvention Think Tank and the Skills Development Desk in order to drive the development of technical skills in the Metro and broader Eastern Cape. Key to achieving this is also the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) from primary school level. This visit, part of a joint initiative between the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training, focused on reintroducing pure Mathematics and Science into the curriculum and highlighting how these subjects are foundational for future career paths. More importantly, it aimed to strengthen collaboration between government and business to foster innovation and technological development in South Africa.
