PGS - Heritage, in partnership with GAS HERITAGE SU Lda, has successfully concluded our large-scale grave relocation project for the Mozambique Liquid Gas Project in northern Mozambique. This past two weeks marked the final stages of test excavations led by GPR scans, packing up offices and containers, and making final arrangements for demobilising our dedicated team and equipment. Over the past eight years, our team has evolved into a close-knit family. We've grown tremendously, learning from expat specialists and ultimately taking the reins to manage and execute this project independently. The dedication, resilience, and expertise developed during this time have been truly inspiring. We remember past team members and the hard work they brought to the project. Zulficar Issufo and Eunice Gabriela Rafael were there from the start managing the project on-site and handling the large amount of data generated. We could not have done it without the archaeologists (Marko Hutten, Marco Valente, Wynand van Zyl and takudzwa beaumont pasipanodya) and our seasoned archaeological field technician Thomas Muluadzi, who spent the time on site imparting their knowledge to junior archaeologists who eventually took over the reins. Steve Horak, our social scientist, joined us in 2016 at the start of the project until 2019, and developed a social engagement process that ensured that we engaged with the next-of-kin and communities - a process that stood the test of time. Lineree De Jager kept the HSE ship afloat and made sure that the daily activities were handled through our SHEQ system. This ensured that we had no reportable incidents over the past 8 years. She is also the final check in our M&E process, without which we could not produce a world-class project. Osvaldo Marrame and Alexandre Vasco Maleiane joined our team as junior archaeologists in 2018 and 2019 but stepped up and completed the last year as senior archaeologists on site. It was with immense joy that I saw them grow in confidence and take on their roles. Our CLOs - Abubacar Abujate, Anli Issa, Mussa Suale Aly and Emilia. Nhaguilunguane built a rapport with the communities we worked in and made the life of the archaeologist easier by ensuring logistics were dealt with. We were lucky to have a team at our client dedicated to ensuring an open and transparent project implementation with the communities and the next-of-kin, and we thank them all for their assistance and input over the years. Last, we could not have done it without our local partners—the labour force from the communities of Senga and Quitupo that we have employed for the last 8 years. As we wrap up this chapter, we're filled with pride and gratitude for the journey we've shared. The road to ASAPA Lesotho 2024 Lesotho 2024 PGS - Heritage assisted the Seriti sa Makhoarane team in expanding their work and knowledge of the settlement pattern around the Makeneng village. Seriti sa Makhoarane requested PGS to help with Ground Penetrating Radar in order to identify different ruins especially those not visible to the naked eye, belonging to some of Morena Lerotholi's 68 wives. Through the previous heritage mapping of the site, SSM researchers with the assistance of Makeneng community members, particularly the descendants of Morena Lerotholi, were able to identify about 40 houses and ruins, which were visible to the naked eye.
