CCO at Precium | Payments purpose-built for enterprise

On Friday, we did our first company-wide Customer Immersion at Precium. The goal was to enrich customer empathy and understanding across our teams, especially those who have less day-to-day interaction with our clients. Our team was given a fictional company and case study, modelled after one of our target segments. In groups, they had to come up with a strategy and operating plan as the client and present back to the Board (our leadership team). If that wasn't tough enough, we threw them a curveball 10 minutes before presenting – a pandemic, regulatory change, and economic downturn among them. The results were exceptional. Being forced to step into our customers' shoes gave the team a renewed perspective on how we can better serve our clients – not just as a payment partner, but as a strategic enabler of their growth. It also helped them to really feel some of the key insights that underpin our strategy as a brand: 1️⃣ Being a merchant is incredibly complex. Payments, while critical, represent just one piece of their much larger puzzle. 2️⃣ Speed and enablement are everything. If we’re not actively empowering our clients and moving faster than they are, we risk becoming a bottleneck rather than a catalyst. 3️⃣ Adaptability is essential. Building solutions that enable pivots in the face of change is as important for us as it is for our clients. A huge thank you to our team, who brought their A-game, and to Tish Haridass for her super-star facilitation. This is just the beginning of many more initiatives to bring us closer to our customers’ worlds.

In the lead up to our rebrand, I was forced to grapple – more than usual – with what makes Precium different. Payments is a competitive industry and feature differentiation is often a temporary advantage. I spent time with the clients who have been our biggest advocates to understand how they saw us. While many commented on our modern technology, quantifiable value delivery, and quality of our team, the sentiment that consistently came through was, "You just get it. You understand our world and it feels like a genuine partnership." Often, the brands that win in crowded markets are the ones that see things differently. They don't just sell on features or pricing, but inspire a change in mindset with their beliefs about the future. Our conviction about the potential of payments to be a strategic asset to enable businesses' boldest ambitions shapes how we build, how we hire, and how we act every single day. We believe businesses deserve more from their payment systems and that through targeted technology and data, we have the power to transform payments from a cost centre to a revenue enabler. This starts with offering customers their most relevant payment methods, embedded in intuitive payment journeys that optimise conversion, success rates, and repeat purchases. Because at the end of the day, it’s not the payment that matters – it’s what it enables.
