  • Did you know that our CEO, Claire Reid, spoke at Stockholm Water Week, the world’s foremost event tackling global water and sustainability challenges? Her presentation put a spotlight on our mission to combat food insecurity through sustainable gardening solutions. 🌱 Fun Fact: Claire’s innovative seed tape concept gained international recognition when she won the Junior Water Prize in 2003 at the event! This recognition gave Reel Life a platform to scale our community garden projects and drive long-term food security in Southern Africa. At Reel Life, we believe in sustainable change, starting from the ground up. #ThrowbackThursday #StockholmWaterWeek #WaterWise #Sustainability #CommunityGardens #ReelLife #FoodSecurity

  • It's Eradication of Poverty Day and we found these key insights from the 2024 Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Report very insightful. The latest report from the Gates Foundation highlights critical challenges and opportunities in achieving global food security and health equity. Here are some takeaways that resonate with our mission of fighting food insecurity through sustainable community gardens: 1. Food Sovereignty as a Game Changer: The report emphasises the importance of local food production. By empowering communities to grow their own food, we build resilience against global disruptions. 2. Climate-Resilient Solutions: As climate change threatens agricultural systems, the focus on sustainable, climate-resilient farming is key. Our programmes, such as school feeding projects, play a crucial role in this transformation. 3. The Role of Women: The report also sheds light on the economic empowerment of women in agriculture, aligning with our belief that women are at the heart of community garden success. Empowering women to lead agricultural efforts creates lasting community change. 4. The Power of Innovation: The report champions the role of innovation in transforming agricultural practices, much like Reel Life’s efforts in bringing innovative gardening solutions to food-insecure communities. Community-led, sustainable solutions are more critical than ever in tackling food insecurity. #Goalkeepers2024 #FoodSecurity #CommunityGardens #SustainableAgriculture #ReelLife #WomenInAgriculture #ClimateAction #GlobalHealth https://lnkd.in/dit6et3c

  • At Reel Life, we’re not just growing gardens—we’re growing solutions to food scarcity. Did you know that about 63% of South Africa’s households are food insecure, of which 17% are critically under-nourished, the National Food and Nutrition Security Survey (NFNSS) has determined. "In individual terms, it means about 20 million of the country’s recorded citizens, not including people illegally residing in South Africa, don’t have food to eat," says FreightNews (https://lnkd.in/ddHnbHyt). With Reel Gardening's biodegradable seed tape, each seed is embedded at the optimal depth and spacing, making planting efficient, foolproof and water efficient. This innovation doesn’t just make gardening easier; it also saves up to 80% of the water compared to traditional methods—an essential benefit in regions where water scarcity is a challenge. 🌱 The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation emphasises that "investing in sustainable agriculture is one of the most powerful ways to reduce hunger." By starting gardens from seeds, we ensure long-term resilience, reduce costs, and create healthier, self-sustaining communities. Let’s explore how integrating sustainable agriculture into your CSI strategy can create lasting impact. #SustainableInnovation #CSR #WaterConservation #FoodSecurity #ReelLife #CommunityImpact #ReelGardening

  • This August, as Women’s Month draws to a close, we at Reel Life want to celebrate the powerful role women play in building stronger, healthier communities. Did you know? Women are often the backbone of community gardens – cultivating food, nurturing connections, and fostering a sense of shared purpose. Why are community gardens so empowering for women? Economic opportunities: Gardens provide income through selling produce, creating jobs in horticulture, or initiating food-based businesses. Leadership and decision-making: Women take on leadership roles within the gardens, building skills and confidence. Improved nutrition: Gardens ensure access to fresh, healthy food for themselves and their families. Social connections: Gardens create a space for women to connect, share knowledge, and support each other. As the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation highlights, empowering women leads to a ripple effect of positive change within communities. • 🌍 Reel Life at World Water Week 2024: Addressing Food Security in Southern Africa This week, we’re proud to be attending World Water Week in Stockholm, a pivotal event that has been fostering innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing water-related challenges since 1991. Topics span from food security and health to agriculture, technology, biodiversity, and the climate crisis. As Josette Sheeran, former Executive Director of the World Food Programme, once said, “Food security is not just about food; it is about providing a future for families and communities, and the ability to build a nation.” At Reel Life, we are deeply committed to combating food insecurity in Southern Africa through the creation of sustainable community gardens. These gardens not only provide access to fresh, nutritious food but also empower local communities to achieve long-term food security. As we engage with global leaders and experts this week, we continue our mission to create a more resilient and sustainable future. #WorldWaterWeek #FoodSecurity #SustainableGardening #ESG #SocialImpact #ClimateAction #WaterResources #ReelLife

  • Did you know that what a child eats in their earliest years can shape their entire life? From boosting brainpower to building strong bodies, good nutrition is the cornerstone of early childhood development. As Dr. Rajiv Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation and former Administrator of USAID, aptly states, "The right nutrition during the 1,000-day window between a woman’s pregnancy and her child’s second birthday is critical to a child’s ability to grow, learn, and rise out of poverty." Our community gardens and educational programs are helping to create a brighter future, one healthy meal at a time 🌱 #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #Nutrition #ChildHealth #FoodSecurity #CommunityImpact #SustainableDevelopment

  • Earlier this year, AZ-Armaturen celebrated with Reel Life the bountiful harvest of their homegrown garden, thanks to seeds provided by Reel Gardening. The founders purchased these seeds for their employees to educate them on food security and empower them to contribute to our country's efforts to combat food insecurity.
