Driving Industry Innovation: Independent Audit of the Truck Booking System. At #SAAFF, we remain committed to advancing efficiency and transparency in South Africa’s logistics network. One of our potential future projects, as featured in the latest edition of #TouchtheSky, focuses on addressing key concerns raised by members regarding the Truck Booking System. 🔍 What’s in the pipeline? 1️⃣ Conducting an independent audit of the current system to assess its efficiency, independence, and contribution to supply chain planning. 2️⃣ Collaborating with Transnet to evaluate the RFP for the Ports Traffic Management System—a project aimed at redefining traffic management and operational fluidity at container terminals. 3️⃣ Once the SAAFF Board approves, we plan to initiate a Proof of Concept, followed by scoping a project plan and assembling a specialized team to deliver key milestones. SAAFF is stepping up to address this concern on behalf of its members. The Challenge: - Importers face exorbitant depot charges, often without a choice in the depot selection process. - Strategic partnerships, such as those between carriers and depots, create dominant positions that importers cannot contest. - This raises concerns under the South African Competition Act, with potential anti-competitive practices such as unfair pricing. During the pandemic, we championed opening additional container access points to address gridlock challenges. Today, we’re proud to highlight the Bayhead Terminal solution, a transformative step toward improving mobility and efficiency within Durban’s #supplychainnetwork. Recent successes include: 🚂 Bayhead Terminal Readiness: Early October saw Transnet ramping up operations with three trains daily, significantly reducing truck turnaround times. 📦 Sustainable Solutions for Bulk Cargo: Tailored operations for large cargo owners with over 50 containers per vessel are now in place, ensuring fluid container movements and operational excellence.
