However, the reality is that millions of children around the world are exposed to violence, abuse, and exploitation every day. The consequences of child abuse are far-reaching and devastating. Children who experience abuse are more likely to struggle with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. They may also experience difficulty in school, struggle with relationships, and be more vulnerable to exploitation. It's time for us to take action! Here's what you can do: ➡️ Report any cases of child abuse or violence to the authorities. ➡️ Support organizations working to prevent child abuse and promote child rights. ➡️ Educate yourself and others about the signs of child abuse and the importance of child protection. ➡️ Advocate for policies and laws that protect children's rights. The statistics are alarming- 1 in 3 children experience abuse. As a society, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that children are protected from harm and provided with a safe and nurturing environment to thrive. We will also be highlighting the importance of reporting suspicious cases and supporting child survivors. From Adversity to Empowerment: Millicent's Journey Through Caregiver Learning Through Play (CLTP) Training There is transformative power of caregiver training- meet Millicent, a dedicated caregiver from Atlantis, whose journey inspires us all. Growing up in a single-parent household with five siblings, Millicent's mother prioritized education, often sacrificing resources for toys and play. Millicent's dreams of becoming a lawyer were put on hold when she fell pregnant in her 4th year. This was followed by depression and lost ambition. While walking with her daughter, Millicent encountered our Play Facilitators, who introduced her to play-based learning. This sparked a newfound passion for teaching young children. Millicent has since completed her Level 4 training, reigniting her dreams and equipping her with: ✔️ Confidence in teaching young children. ✔️ Understanding of play-based learning's cognitive benefits. ✔️ Enhanced emotional intelligence. ✔️ Stronger bonds with her children. At Save the Children South Africa, we recognize the urgent need to address the devastating impacts of climate change on children's lives. As world leaders gather for COP29, we urge them to prioritize children's rights, interests, and futures. Climate change poses an existential threat to: ✔️ Children's health: Increased disease, malnutrition, and mental trauma. ✔️ Education: Disrupted learning, destroyed infrastructure, and lost opportunities. ✔️ Safety: Rising natural disasters, displacement, and exploitation. ✔️ Future: Uncertain livelihoods, economic instability, and diminished prospects. The time for action is now and we stand with children in demanding: ✔️ Ambitious climate commitments. ✔️ Increased climate finance, especially for vulnerable communities. ✔️ Child-centred climate policies. ✔️ Inclusive and equitable climate decision-making. This research examines the lived experience of first-year students who are studying towards a UNISA Diploma in ECCE. The study seeks to understand the challenges and opportunities that shape their learning journey, and to identify strategies to enhance the quality of pre-service teacher education. 774 million children – a third of all children – face the dual threat of poverty and high climate risk.   Children are facing more extreme weather in an increasingly unequal world. Climate-related heatwaves, droughts and flooding destroy crops, livestock, and livelihoods. Millions of children are facing a hunger crisis as we experience increasing climate shocks.   Children have contributed the least to the climate crisis, but are the most impacted, as they and their families are being pushed further into poverty, with the most vulnerable often being hit the hardest.   We calling on those most responsible for climate damage to pay their fair share to protect children’s rights.
