Despite a challenging agricultural cycle, a balanced strategy and consolidation have enabled the Senwes Group to announce satisfactory interim results today. For the six months ending 31 October, the group reported a turnover of R7.177 billion, with a profit after tax attributable to shareholders of R241 million and normalised earnings per share of 143.5 cents. Senwes bids a heartfelt farewell The Senwes Group sadly announced today the unexpected passing of Wikus Grobler, Executive Director of Grainlink, at the age of 52 yesterday. Wikus, who earned his degree at NWU in Potchefstroom, had been involved with Senwes since 2001. He initially joined as a chartered accountant, working as part of the PriceWaterhouseCoopers audit team responsible for auditing Senwes. In 2002, he was appointed Financial Manager at Senwes Grain. By 2005, he was promoted to Risk Manager, and in January 2006, he became Assistant Manager: Finance in the grain division. Over time, he rose to lead the division handling Senwes’ core business. Along the way, he was also responsible for Group Finance and Treasury. Wikus excelled in his role and was one of the few who truly understood the complexities and dynamics of the grain market. He cared deeply for his community and made a meaningful difference. Through innovation, he developed grain marketing products that provided producers with optimal choices for trading grain. "We will miss Wikus dearly. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones," said Francois Strydom, CEO. The Grainlink team will be supported during this difficult time and remains ready to serve clients throughout the season.
