🍝🔬 Ever realized how similar making tortelli and running carbon-nitrogen analysis really are? Roll out the dough = Prepare the sample. Fill and seal the pasta = Weigh and seal the capsule. Cook the tortelli = Run the analysis. Both take 5 minutes to finish, but endless care to start. Whether you’re cooking food or analyzing elements, great results are built on great prep. Let’s be honest—what’s harder? Rolling perfect tortelli or prepping perfect samples? Share your stories in the comments 👇🏻

A recipe for cross-section trench pattern imaging workflow was created using an automatic continuous imaging software, EM Flow Creator (EMFC). The recipe automatically acquires the fine pattern at 250,000 magnification in the area with a width of 35 μm and 56 images were acquired in 15 minutes and the data acquisition throughput is comparable to manual operation. The automation enables operator-independent consistent measurement and allocation of human resource to improve overall analysis efficiency. #TrenchPattern #SEM #ElectronMicroscopy #ElectronMicroscope Available tools for this measurement are : Ultra-high Resolution Scanning Electron Microscope https://lnkd.in/gaBtztZt Further details and previously posted applications can be found on our YouTube channel. Microplastics and Lead Exposure 🔉🔊 Microplastics are small plastic pieces less than five millimeters long which can be harmful. Microplastics can accumulate lead, which can change the toxicity of the microplastics. Studies in cell cultures, marine wildlife, and animal models indicate that microplastics can cause oxidative damage, DNA damage, and changes in gene activity, known risks for cancer development. Microplastics can act as a vector of heavy metals in aquatic environments, which can threaten aquatic organisms and human health. Lead in plastics: Lead is used to make plastic more flexible and to soften it. When exposed to air, sunlight, or detergents, the chemical bond between the lead and plastic breaks down, forming dust. Let's keep our children and communities free from lead poisoning. Microplastics and PFAS "forever chemicals" have been dominating headlines and funds to address these pollutants have been secured from the UN's Framework on Global Chemicals. However, a new blog post from the Center for Global Development makes the argument: lead is probably worse. A short reference in the UN's recently released Framework notes the the global cost of lead exposure was $6 trillion in 2019, or almost 7 percent of the GDP: but lead is not addressed in the 28 target chemicals of the Framework document. Lead has been proven to be a harmful pollutant, affecting 1 in 3 children around the world, according to UNICEF data. A 2016 WHO report found that nearly half of all deaths from chemical exposures were due to lead exposure. Pure Earth, in collaboration with the CGD, has made strides in making lead-poisoning a global policy priority with the Partnership for a Lead Free Future. It's time that the international conversation around chemical pollutants addresses the issue of lead exposure, with adequate funding secured to keep our children and communities free from lead poisoning.
