About us
SALT is a reflecting optical astronomical telescope of the tilted Arecibo type located in the Karoo region of South Africa at an altitude of 1726 m, and is largest optical telescope in the Southern hemisphere. It has a hexagonal primary mirror array 11 metres across, comprising 91 individual 1m hexagonal mirrors.
