Why bill HR 9495 (the "kill nonprofits bill") passing in the U.S. House of Representatives matters to all of us. From Rebecca Hanshaw and Barry Knight, writing in Alliance magazine. #ShiftThePower
Freelance Consultant| Experienced in charity leadership; resource mobilisation; strategy & programme development; partnership building; and grant making & philanthropy
Having followed Rusty Stahl’s posts on HR 9495 last week, Barry Knight and I share some reflections below in Alliance magazine. This is not just a US issue. Progressive philanthropy and civil society organisations must see HR 9495 in the context of a larger campaign to suppress and silence voices that favour diversity, equity and inclusion. Now is not the time for apathy and silence. Now is the time to develop a shared strategy, resource community activism, and offer a compelling alternative to the ‘snake oil charm of populism’. Nearly three years into the war in #Ukraine, local organizations continue to support their communities and have more than proven their effectiveness. Yet the amount and quality of resources reaching them is entirely insufficient. The time for discussions and declarations around "localization" is long past - now is time for action from the international funding community. If you agree, show your solidarity with our colleagues in Ukraine by signing this open letter from the National Network of Local Philanthropy Development. #ShiftThePower https://lnkd.in/eDXwc4g5

"No one wants to believe their organisation may inadvertently work against its mission." In this article, Nina FitzSimons writes about the interaction of legitimacy and power, and why identifying the legitimacy gap within organisations is relatively easy. Addressing it & determining how to move forward is far more challenging https://lnkd.in/dQra_CS5 #ShiftThePower
