At one of our Thinkerneur #ImpactSeries events, we hosted wonder Sustainability and Impact Leaders, at the forefront of conscious corporate activities. In this session, we learned about the work that Sappi carried out in their respective communities, where communities are the centre of their efforts to do good. Kellanova's work with school children through the #BetterDays platform is a great case study of how a clear and targeted solution can produce exponential positive results for those it serves. A fascinating and educational video on how Greenhouse Gases, particularly carbon dioxide impacts earth's temperatures. These scientists are able to go back over 800 000 years ago to do a comparison of the amount carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over the years. The key insight is that even before the industrial revolution; when carbox dioxide is released into the atmosphere, temperatures rise. But... this time, the earth has never experienced this huge amounts of CO2, and it is because humans and corporates. Chief Executive for Sustainable Impact, Bogosi Motshegwa attended the Trevor Noah Foundation (TNF)'s "Shaping The Future: Innovations For Youth Programme" event. An insightful day which delivered two great panel discussions, where the impact leaders on the panels unpacked the two respective topics; "Where do we see the future?" and "Engaging the youth in Shaping the Future." A high level and intensely intellectually alert room comprising of Shalane Yuen, MPA, Founding Managing Director at the TNF and Sizwe Nxasana, CEO & Founder of the Sifiso Learning Group. As the pioneering force behind the solution of #SustainableImpact and doing good, it is overwhelmingly inspiring to see organisations like the Trevor Noah Foundation "lean in" to do the work, and then "step back" to harness communities' ability to lead themselves and thereby remain sustainable. With focus on education, the day was filled with not just encouraging ideas, but also invigorating questions. The job at hand can never be fixed by one organisation, but the TNF's work is commendable and definitely strives towards our belief of collectively working together to leave people and communities better than they are found. We were thoroughly impressed by the conversations from both panels. Also impressive is the work spearheaded by Sifiso Learning Group, guided by the leadership of Sizwe Nxasana. Well done and congratulations to the TNF team, under the stewardship and leadership of Shalane Yuen, MPA. It was lovely to meet the rest of the team as well, Olona Tywabi. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals remain a major challenge as progress is either stagnant or significantly slow. The Sustainable Development Report 2024, produced by United Nations (United Nations Association of South Africa) indicates that major challenges remain and persist when it comes to SDG 2, #ZeroHunger (pictured). Scores either remain stagnant or are not increasing at the required pace. It is for this reason that we must ensure that we collaborate as key and relevant stakeholders, across public, civil and private sectors to ensure that we achieve our targets.
