At ThinkShift, we are pioneering the use of AI to measure 21st-century competencies—equipping children with the critical skills they need for the future. Hard skills are easy to track, but soft skills like creativity, communication, and collaboration have been harder to measure—until now. With the support of UNICEF South Africa, we're leveraging AI to assess and develop these crucial skills, ensuring no child is left behind in a fast-changing world. This is just the beginning of what's possible when we integrate AI into education. Let's continue shaping the future of learning together! #ArtificialIntelligence #InternationalDayOfEducation #21stCenturySkills
#ArtificialIntelligence (#AI) systems are fundamentally changing the world and affecting present and future generations of children. Children already interact with AI technologies in different ways: they are embedded in toys, virtual assistants, video games, and adaptive learning software. This #InternationalDayOfEducation, UNICEF recognises the potential in AI systems #ForEveryChild's development. Leveraging AI for children’s education is no exception. Transferrable, 21st-century skills and soft skills are critical for children to learn and maximize their potential to enter and survive the fast-changing labour market. While hard skills are easy to identify, measuring soft skills has not been easy as various elements of competencies are interlinked to measure the overall capacity of a person, beyond school grades and/or CVs. In response to this and with the support of Chery South Africa and the Austrian Development Agency, UNICEF piloted measuring selected competencies among learners, using the power of AI to analyze large datasets and simplify and scale trends. While considering any risks and concerns, further exploration into using AI may help to enhance the quality and relevance of the national education system as South Africa strengthens its competency-based approach to education. Here's how it's helping the children of Kgokare Secondary School, In Sebokeng, Gauteng province. #DayOfEducation #InternationalDayOfEducation
