A Vodacom delegation from the Limpopo region was joined by His Majesty Mailausumbwa Thovhele Vho-MPK Tshivhase, all members of Tshivhase Traditional Council and scores of community members at the unveiling of a new base station site in Thathe Vondo, located in Thohoyandou, Thulamela Municipality. The new 4G/LTE site is significant for thousands of households in this vast area. This will be the first base station deployed in this village, ushering in a new era of fast internet connectivity and mobile access. The new site is located at the Tshivhase Nature Reserve, Thathe Vondo, is part of Vodacom’s Rural Coverage Network Expansion Programme, aimed at expanding network coverage for people who live in deep rural areas of South Africa. Omphile Mosegedi, Executive Head: Operations for Vodacom Limpopo region commented: “Connectivity plays a significant role in offering people in remote areas access to transformative digital services, such as eEducation, eHealth, eGovernment services and financial opportunities. By increasing connectivity in underserved areas such as Thathe Vondo, we can help empower communities and ensure they can participate meaningfully in the digital economy. As a result of this deployment, school-going kids can now access the internet for the first time and have the option of using online learning platforms, whilst those who are actively looking for jobs can now use their smartphones to access job portals that are zero-rated for Vodacom subscribers. Community members who previously had to travel long distances to make calls and do banking can do this on their devices from the comfort of their homes without incurring travelling costs.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dXscyHth

Vodacom Business has released its cybersecurity report "Cybersecurity as an Imperative for Growth". The research, commissioned in partnership with Omdia, offers insights into the state of cybersecurity in South Africa, the importance of security frameworks in digital resilience and the latest attack methods adopted by cyber attackers. The report reveals that 80% of South African businesses said they had experienced a cyberattack in the past year, with only 32% of organisations saying that cybersecurity training is prioritised among employees. “Just as the cloud, IoT technologies and mobile networks have empowered businesses, cybersecurity needs to be seen as just as an important enabler for growth. Our report provides vital information on why businesses need to prioritise cybersecurity, serving as an essential resource for organisations and decision-makers looking to understand these risks and implement effective strategies to protect their assets and data,” says Videsha Proothveerajh, Director of Vodacom Business. Following the devastating heavy downpours across Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in October that displaced more than 4000 residents, the Vodacom Eastern Region worked with several partners to distribute humanitarian aid to affected communities, including Kamvelihle Phase 2 in Motherwell. The region also supplied Gift of the Givers with over 500 food parcels and care packs to help victims in affected areas in and around Gqeberha. Working with the Eastern Cape Department of Education, Vodacom donated 1000 food packs, care packs, and sanitary towels to support matric learners housed in shelters. “The recent heavy downpours that displaced many and led to loss of life across Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality moved us deeply and rallied us to action. Our humanitarian relief efforts underscore our commitment to community upliftment and align with our purpose-led business approach. We commiserate with all the affected families and wish them strength and courage in this difficult time,” says Zakhele Jiyane, Managing Executive, Vodacom Eastern Cape Region.
