Nando’s are the 2024 winners of the Sustainability Champion Award as voted for by industry peers for their efforts in employability, waste reduction, carbon reduction and food donations. Nando's South Africa have had a dedicated Sustainability team for over 10 years. They buy 100% renewable electricity across all of their restaurants in UK and Ireland. They’ve also started using a new waste recycling system in some of their restaurants that reuses waste heat from their kitchens to heat water and buildings. This reduces their CO2 emissions and helps them reach their goal of being net zero. It doesn't stop there, as they're working hard with their key suppliers to reduce emissions across their supply chain. Earlier this year I photographed the newly refurbished Nando's UK & IRE, Cardigan Fields in Leeds. Harrison. have designed the restaurant with African influenced geometric lines and patterns throughout the tiling, centre feature screen with glass panels, and fabrics. Nando’s sustainability commitment supports global and local businesses by sourcing its artwork through the Spier Art Trust and lighting with South African companies like Ashanti Design.
