At YW Capital, we believe in presenting South Africa’s equity story to the global investment community by demonstrating tangible progress, not just policy suggestions or theoretical discussions. By showcasing real achievements, we build confidence in our market and attract the investments needed for sustainable growth. This morning, YW Capital, in collaboration with Hudson Sandler Invicomm, hosted an insightful Breakfast Panel Discussion at GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science) on "Catalysing Economic Growth and Investment in Gauteng: Overcoming Barriers and Fostering Public-Private Partnerships." As South Africa embarks on a new chapter under the Government of National Unity, the opportunities for economic growth and foreign investment are significant. Mesh Pillay, CEO of YW Capital, spoke about the “wall of capital” waiting to be deployed, provided we reduce the barriers to investment—particularly the reliance on government institutions for key infrastructure availability and development. To drive private sector investment, we must prioritise public-private partnerships, leverage blended finance models, and de-risk infrastructure investments through development finance institutions and government cooperation. Unlocking this potential means addressing the challenges of creating a sustainable, business-friendly environment. Today’s discussion was a meaningful step forward, focusing on practical solutions to reduce these barriers and enhance the ease of doing business in South Africa through actionable dialogue. #EconomicGrowth #InvestmentOpportunities #PublicPrivatePartnerships #InclusiveGrowth #SustainableDevelopment

2024 elections - Capital flight or fight? The 2024 national elections have come and gone, ushering in a historic outcome which many anticipated, but still find remarkable. The African National Congress (ANC), a party that has dominated South African politics since the advent of democracy, garnered only 40% of the vote, losing ground to uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the shock factor in this election, who convinced more than 2,3 million South Africans to yield their democratic cross, only just 9 days ago. Despite this, and other anecdotes emanating from the election results, the overall picture marks a profound shift from 30 years of single-party dominance to a multi-party faceted government. The outcome raises critical questions about the future of our political landscape and the potential formation of a coalition government, a government of national unity (GNU), or none at all. This is a pivotal moment in South Africa's history. In this session with Dr Mathews Phosa and Mesh Pillay, we unpack what the new political climate means for South Africa. Dealmaking has had an unsteady ride during 2023, predominantly owing to a myriad of macroeconomic, geopolitical, and other domestic headwinds, which ultimately drove down M&A and capital, raising volumes to lows last seen outside the current decade. At YW Capital, we anticipate a more positive outlook for deal activity in 2024, especially as the investment climate stabilises in the latter half of the year. This will lead to renewed confidence and a gradual resurgence in M&A and capital-raising activity. As forward-thinking corporate advisors, we recognise the importance of corporates and entrepreneurs actively redefining their business models within this context. In an evolving business landscape, it is essential to prioritise acquiring high-quality opportunities and partnering with compatible capital partners to drive value. Businesses should also consider making comprehensive strategic, operational, and financial changes to unlock new opportunities. At YW Capital, we have a proven track record of partnering businesses with astute investors who understand the dichotomy of partnering for the long term, even within volatile environments. We offer various services, including capital structuring and restructuring, project finance, and debt and equity capital raising.
