First described by Andrew Smith in 1833, this magnificent creature is a true testament to the biodiversity of our natural world. With a length surpassing 5 meters (16 feet), it holds its place as one of the largest snakes on the planet. While sharing a colouration similarity with its northern relative, the Southern African rock python is often described as a "drabber." Watch KIDS SAFARI MEERKATS this weekend on Lion Mountain TV, available on the Apple and Andriod app stores. The Kalahari is a vast, dry part of southern Africa. It’s not a desert because it gets a little rain every year. Melua and Luca are here in search of a most curious creature. Meerkats! They find a whole family of Meerkats out on their morning journey to find food. This particular group is used to humans being near them, so they allow Luca and Melua to get quite close.

The oceanic whitetip shark! 🦈 This giant, a stocky shark with distinctive white-tipped fins, rules the warm temperate and tropical seas. Named for the elegant white tips on its dorsal, pectoral, and tail fins, these solitary predators are the kings of the open ocean food web. From biting into schools of bony fish to effortlessly swimming through tuna gatherings, these sharks are absolute powerhouses. Found in the Indo-Pacific, the Mediterranean, and warm latitudes across all oceans, they can reach lengths of up to 396 cm (13 ft)! However, it's not all smooth sailing for our oceanic friends. Their population is on the decline due to historical fishing pressure. This Wildlife Thursday, we spotlight the majestic tiger, the largest living cat species and a true marvel of nature. 🐅 The tiger's striking appearance, with black stripes on vibrant orange fur and a distinctive white underside, makes it an icon of the wild. As an apex predator, tigers play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems by preying on ungulates like deer and wild boar. Unfortunately, they face a grim threat due to illegal trade. Tigers are tragically targeted for their bones, which are used to make tiger bone glue, a traditional medicine. The byproducts, including stuffed trophies, skins, claws, and teeth, are sold as highly valued decorations and jewellery.
