With 450 participants from 24 countries, each person played a crucial role in bringing this event to life. Officials, scrutineers, and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure smooth operations across South Africa's diverse landscape. From the early morning team meetings to the dynamic, on-the-go solution-focused sessions, every moment showcased the team's unwavering commitment and dedication. A special mention goes to the SA Solar Events team, led by Lize-Mari Nel, and Andrew Eva, who spearheaded the officials and scrutineers. Professor Pat Wheeler and his volunteers also deserve recognition for maintaining high standards throughout the event. Despite facing challenges like unpredictable weather, the community's collective effort turned obstacles into opportunities, fostering a sense of unity. Back to studying after an incredible year with Solar Team Twente☀️ Last year, I put my studies on hold to join the very first Innovation Edition of Solar Team Twente as a Research and Development Engineer. During the year, me and 6 other students gave everything to make innovations to Solar Team Twente's latest car. As R&D engineer, I had the opportunity to take on many interesting projects such as applying an aerodynamic riblet film to reduce surface drag, designing vortex generators to minimize wake behind the license plate, and designing a system to seal gaps around the wheels. I was also responsible for the redesign of various parts and the assembly and maintainance of the mechanical systems of the car. 🏎️ After more than a year of hard work, we put our solarcar to the test during the Sasol Solar Challenge —a demanding eight-day journey from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The goal was to cover as many kilometers as possible, driving extra loops along the route. During the challenge, I set aside my technical responsibilities to focus on driving the solar car. Our core team of 7 grew to 37 for the event and together we optimized strategy, teamwork, and operations to navigate the challenging route as efficiently as possible. Our hard work paid off, as we finished in second place 🥈 Now that this amazing adventure has come to an end, I have returned to the University of Twente to focus on completing my Master’s degree in Biorobotics📚.

After two and a half year I have returned to the lecture halls of University of Twente. For the past year (and a bit) I have worked in a group of seven students on the project of Solar Team Twente. As the first innovation edition we focussed on long term systems which would also help future teams. These systems all had to be fast tracked to achieve their design, production and test fase in just one year.  My focus was on realising the return of Sabine, a system that takes out the negative effect solar cells have on one another, into the car. We took the concept of the system from the first version and went on to sketch from there. I am proud to say that this project was a success, but it wouldn’t have been possible without all the help I got from old team members and our partners. To top it off, we got to go to South Africa along with 30 other people who helped us during our debut the Sasol Solar Challenge. It was amazing to see our car drive on the public roads from Johannesburg all the way to Cape Town where we came in second with a total of 4143 km in 8 days! We're on board for this year's Sasol Solar Challenge Driven by Toyota. We are thrilled to announce that we are the mobility partner of the 2024 Sasol Solar Challenge. The challenge is an eight-day long event where South African and international teams try to cover as much distance as possible as they travel on public roads from Gauteng to the Western Cape in solar-powered vehicles that they have designed and built themselves. As the mobility partner, we have sponsored 12 vehicles to be used by the organisers of this year's challenge.
