💡 #ProudlyUP: EMS Alumni in the Spotlight 💡 EMS alumnus, Nomsa Maseko CXAC, ACXM found her true calling in commerce and communication management, after pursuing a BCom Honours Communication Management at the University of Pretoria – which she obtained with distinction. Her academic achievements paved the way for an exciting corporate career as a certified customer experience designer at FNB South Africa. Maseko has a great affinity for people and her communication qualification has enabled her to work closely with people. She is immensely proud to be associated with UP and currently serves on the UP Convocation Advisory Board striving to contribute to the University’s success and creating a conducive environment where students can thrive. “I owe a significant portion of my success to UP. Last week Friday, the UP Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, in collaboration with the PEP - Partnership for Economic Policy and the Center for Global Development (CGD), hosted a policy conference and roundtable discussion on "The Role of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in Supporting Green Energy Transitions: The Case of South Africa." 📍 The event took place at the Apogee Boutique Hotel and Spa in Waterkloof, Pretoria. The presentations and discussions during the day provided innovative and policy-relevant insights on how MDBs can better support South Africa’s green energy transition, addressing systemic and project-specific challenges while promoting sustainable development. Participants emphasized the importance of inclusive transitions that realign skills with future job needs and carefully considers the sub-regional effects of the energy transition, while addressing the urgent need for scalable concessional financing and targeted technical assistance. The need to lower the risk profile of the South African economy was also highlighted in order to reduce some of the bottlenecks related to the financing of the green transition. We extend our gratitude to all participants, stakeholders, and policymakers who joined the dialogue, contributing their expertise and fostering collaboration. 👗 Supporting Our Postgraduate Students with a Community Initiative 👔 On 30 October, the UP Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) at the University of Pretoria took an important step to help our postgraduate students in Financial Management, Accounting, Taxation, and Auditing as they prepare to transition into the workforce next year. 🌟 As part of our efforts to support their professional journey, we organized a work clothing donation initiative, collecting pre-loved work clothing and accessories - such as belts, bags, shoes, and jewelry - for both men and women. This initiative not only helps our students feel confident as they embark on their careers, but it also promotes sustainability and community solidarity. Tshegofatso obtained a BCom Accounting Sciences and BCom Hons Accounting Sciences from the University of Pretoria , motivated by his desire to make a positive impact on society through knowledge and skills transfer. Today, he is a qualified Chartered Accountant, leveraging his expertise in the Public Finance Management Act to drive change in the public sector.
