12k Energy Southern Africa - Lusaka Zambia. Minister of Energy, Hon. #MakozoChikote launched the Electricity Open Access Online application Platform. The Electricity Open Access platform will enable interested participants in the #electricity supply industry to submit applications for access to the #transmission and #distribution network electronically in a transparent manner. Key highlights from the launch are as follows: ✅ The Government is committed to fostering an efficient, competitive, and transparent #electricity market. ✅ The #MinistryofEnergy and #ERB will continue to monitor the implementation of open access to ensure it aligns with the sector’s goals and needs. ✅ #Zambia has enacted the Electricity (Open Access) Regulations No. 40 of 2024 to address current energy challenges and attract much-needed #investment in the sector. ✅ The Electricity Open Access initiative empowers independent power producers #IPPs to generate and sell electricity directly to consumers using the #ZESCO, #CEC or #NWEC network. The development of the electricity open access regulations and the related regulatory tools was done by the #MoE and #ERB with support from the #GermanGovernment through #KfW development bank. The process involved wide stakeholder consultation over a period of 4 years involving key players in the Electricity supply industry. #Power #Distribution #Transmission #Generation
