Join ActionAid Zambia in this insightful webinar! Register today to secure your spot! https://shorturl.at/4FVRg #16DaysofActivism
📅Join us tomorrow, for this webinar with government speakers Johanne Fremstad, Gerard Howe, Marleny Oliva and practitioners Samantha Munang'andu, Sushmita Lama and Joyce Peshu to learn how key steps in environmental programming – such as adapting gender-based violence referral pathways and turning gender analysis findings into improved safeguards – can promote safety and security for women in environmental contexts, every day. As we mark International Human Rights Day and the end of this year’s 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-based Violence, we need to remind ourselves that addressing the global crisis of gender-based violence is a commitment that must be carried out every day. The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) landmark publication, Gender-based violence and environment linkages: the violence of inequality, found that 59% of over 300 environmental practitioners had observed or been informed of gender-based violence during the implementation of environmental projects. The need to protect safety, dignity, and equality for all people in environmental work and conservation has never been more urgent. HARNESSING STRONGER SYSTEMS OF GOVERNANCE FOR RESILIENCE - Zambia National Learning Event for Social Accountability Actors. ActionAid Zambia, in collaboration with the PSA Alliance , PSAM, and SAfAIDS, successfully conducted a national learning event at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka. The event focused on achieving several key objectives, including establishing a clearer understanding of the legislative reforms required to strengthen good governance by reflecting on legislative weaknesses that need addressing and leveraging existing strengths. It also aimed to enhance the capacity of CSOs and advocacy groups to influence governance outcomes based on collectively set imperatives. Additionally, the event developed concrete recommendations to improve oversight and accountability, with a particular focus on anti-corruption efforts. Lastly, it formulated strategies to integrate climate response, mitigation, and adaptation—including continuous health service delivery and food security into governance resilience plans. The learning event brought together actors from both the demand and supply sides at local and national levels, fostering collaboration and dialogue. #ActionAid #ActionAidZambia #PSAAlliance #PSAM #SAfAIDS #SocialAccountability #Governance

EMPOWERING FARMERS FOR SUSTAINABILITY On Monday, December 2, farmers in Sesheke District, Western Province, received a transformative gift of resilient seeds worth K577,923 from ActionAid through the Transformation Impact Fund (TIF). The handover, witnessed by the District Commissioner, local councillors, the Barotse Royal Establishment, and other community leaders, marked a step toward sustainable farming, environmental conservation, and poverty-free futures. Of the 90 beneficiary farmers, 70% were women reliant on fisheries resources. They expressed heartfelt gratitude, highlighting how these seeds will rebuild their livelihoods and ensure food security for their families. During the fish ban, these women will focus on farming, reducing dependence on natural resources while adapting to the challenges of climate change. This initiative, rooted in agroecology, not only empowers communities but also contributes to environmental sustainability and strengthens resilience against climate change. ActionAid remains steadfast in its mission to advance sustainability and break the cycle of poverty. The next group of beneficiaries will be farmers in Nalolo District, also in Western Province, as ActionAid continues to expand its support to rural communities. #ActionAid #ActionAidZambia #Agriculture #Agroecology #TransformationImpactFund #TIF #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment
