We are excited to share that Yesterday, the COMESA Business Council (CBC), in collaboration with the HiPipo Foundation, engaged with the Cross-Border Traders’ Associations from both Malawi and Zambia at the Mwami/Mchinji one-stop border post. This strategic point connects the two nations and serves as a hub for regional trade. During our meeting, the challenges faced by traders, including limited access to capital, high #mobilemoney transaction charges, and poor internet connectivity were highlighted as well as the barriers hindering traders from fully utilising digital #financialservices, such as access to digital #financialliteracy and trust issues with existing platforms. We also had the opportunity to visit the COMESA Market for #MSMEs in Chipata Zambia, which is still under construction. This market is being designed with inclusivity at its core, prioritizing #women and youth by incorporating features that cater to their specific needs and support their economic empowerment. We remain committed to fostering partnerships and developing innovative solutions to enhance cross-border trade and create #sustainable economic opportunities across the region. #DigitalFinancialInclusion #CrossBorderTrade #WomenEmpowerment #RegionalDevelopment Teddy Soobramanien Dr Jonathan Pinifolo, CDFP Innocent Kawooya, NIM Malumbo Bowa Miller Abel
