  • NOCZ Congratulates Coach Jenipher Phiri on ICC Achievement with Distinction ----- The Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia—NOCZ, Boniface Kambikambi warmly welcomed Badminton Coach Jenipher Phiri to the NOCZ Secretariat yesterday following her successful completion of the prestigious International Coaching Course (ICC). Coach Jenipher paid a courtesy call on the Secretary General to present her certificate, having completed the ICC programme with distinction. This globally recognized intermediate-level course is meticulously designed to train and educate coaches from diverse backgrounds. It emphasizes promoting coaching excellence by providing a structured approach to enhancing theoretical, technical, and practical coaching skills. The course equips participants with advanced knowledge and tools to develop their expertise in the field of sports coaching. Kambikambi congratulated Coach Jenipher on her outstanding performance during the programme and commended her dedication and commitment to advancing her professional skills. He encouraged her to apply the knowledge and techniques gained from the ICC to transform and elevate the coaching landscape in Zambia. He noted that the ICC programme’s focus on sports science and specialization offers a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary education in sports, with an emphasis on fostering talent at all levels—from grassroots to the Olympic podium. The Secretary-General further highlighted that NOCZ would leverage Coach Jenipher’s newly acquired technical capabilities by integrating her expertise into various programmes and activities. This initiative aims to build capacity across the national federations affiliated with the Olympic Committee and strengthen the overall sports development in Zambia. Coach Jenipher pursued the ICC programme under the Olympic Solidarity (OS) Scholarship facilitated by NOCZ. The course, organized by the @Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) International Relations Centre, is conducted in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee – IOC and supported by Olympic Solidarity. During the course, participants undergo rigorous training, including the study of 13 theoretical subjects such as Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Sport Analytics, Sport Pedagogy, Sport Psychology, and Sport Management. Additionally, participants engage in practical coaching assignments at leading Hungarian sports clubs. The programme tests coaches on both theoretical and practical aspects of their respective disciplines, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience. This achievement not only marks a significant milestone in Coach Jenipher’s professional journey but also underscores NOCZ’s commitment to investing in capacity-building initiatives that empower coaches to achieve excellence and drive the growth of sports in Zambia. Barbra Banda: Africa’s Best Footballer and a Story of Hard Work ---- By Felix munyika Barbra Banda winning the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award surprises no one who has followed her journey. Her hard work and dedication for both club and country make this recognition well deserved. This year alone, Banda led Orlando Pride to the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Trophy and was named the NWSL Championship MVP. She also helped her team secure the NWSL Shield, underlining her dominance in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Remarkably, she achieved all this in just eight months of playing in the United States. Over the past four years, Banda has proven herself not only as an exceptional athlete but as a leader. She captained Zambia to historic appearances at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and a return to the Olympic stage for Paris 2024. Her recent achievements extend beyond the field. Banda was recently named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year, and now she claims the African Women’s Footballer of the Year title by Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) With two more awards pending at both international and national levels, her accolades continue to grow, cementing her place as a global football icon. Whenever she steps onto the field, Banda gives her all. She sacrifices for the team, pushes her limits, and sets herself apart from others. Her performances have been unmatched for years, proving that consistency and effort always pay off. Some critics once questioned her dominance in leagues they deemed less competitive, like the Chinese League. But now, playing in the National Women’s Soccer League, she is showing the world her true potential. If there were any doubts, they’re now long gone. Zambia has never seen such a prolific female footballer. This proves that Barbra Banda is not just the pride of our country but also a shining star on the African continent and beyond. Her achievements inspire young athletes everywhere, proving that talent, paired with hard work, knows no boundaries. Off the pitch, Banda is equally impressive. She carries herself with grace, humility, and a calm confidence. During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, I saw firsthand how her character matches her talent. She is not only a great athlete but a role model. As we celebrate this well-earned accolade, let us also reflect on a key lesson: success comes when you give your best, stay patient, and trust your journey. Barbra Banda’s story is far from over, and the world should watch closely. Thank you, Barbra, for raising the bar for women’s sport in Zambia and inspiring a new generation of footballers. Your journey is proof that greatness is possible when you put in the work.
