The Judo Association of Zambia rewards athletes It was a blissful evening yesterday as we witnessed several talented Zambian judokas being rewarded during the 2024 National Judo Awards, which were organised by the Judo Association Of Zambia. It was a moment of joy, laughter, fun, and peace as these judokas received the awards, knowing that their performances in 2024 were exemplary enough to deserve going back with something to display at home. Over 20 judokas, referees, clubs and coaches received the prestigious awards. The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Secretary General/Chief Executive Officer Boniface Kambikambi was present to witness the event and presented the awards to some of the award recipients. Judo Association of Zambia (JAZ) president Alfred Foloko who is also the African Judo Union vice president disclosed that the inaugural national judo awards will now be an annual event which will appear on the judo calendar in Zambia. He expressed gratitude to partners like Musa Biscuits, which has been supporting judo with a league game that saw many of these judokas take part, adding that 2025 will be an interesting year for the sport of judo in Zambia. Guest of honour at the awards ceremony Sombwa Musunsa who is the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Director/CEO congratulated the Judo Association for the inaugural awards stating the event should inspire other associations to reward athletes for their hard work and dedication to sport. Among those who walked away with rewards include; Simon Zulu Best International Overall Performance Award, Steven Mung'andu as Best Intentional Achievement Award, Misozi Daka as Female Coach of the Year, Gilbert Kanyanta as Best Junior Male, Andrew Sande as Best Technical Official, and Joshua Nyondo Fair Play Award. Several people representing different organisations witnessed the awards ceremony among them representatives from the Japanese Embassy in Zambia, Musa Biscuits, OYDC Zambia, Zambia Air Force, and NOWSPAR.
