A United Front for Conservation. WCP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Anti-Corruption Commission Zambia (ACC) to promote corruption-free conservation of Zambia’s wildlife and environment. The ACC plays a critical role in combating wildlife and environmental crimes by detecting corrupt practices, enforcing laws, and targeting high-level criminals involved in these offenses. Through this partnership, WCP will support the ACC through capacity-building, court monitoring, technical and logistical support, equipment provision, and awareness support. Together, we are strengthening efforts to detect, investigate, and prosecute corruption linked to wildlife and environmental crimes. #UnitedforNature #ConservationPartnerships #WildlifeProtection #Zambia #AntiCorruption #WCP

We’re making meaningful strides in understanding the illegal pangolin trade in Zambia! Our baseline study was carried out last year and has provided great insights into local contexts and potential strategies to address this illicit trade effectively. Our goal? To build impactful interventions that empower and educate our communities. Special thanks to our partners GIZ Zambia, the Department of National Parks & Wildlife, University of Oxford, Copperbelt University, and FQM Zambia for their invaluable support in guiding us toward sustainable solutions. Together, we’re working to end pangolin trafficking and protect Zambia’s wildlife. #ProtectthePangolins #WildlifeConservation #PangolinConservation #EndWildlifeTrafficking

After gathering data for our baseline study on the illegal pangolin trade in Zambia, we’re excited to share that analysis has led us to a priority group working alongside us to tackle this pressing issue. Through three interactive workshops in Solwezi, we collaborated on identifying effective and culturally sensitive interventions aimed at reducing pangolin trade and consumption. This co-design approach ensures our efforts resonate with the community and create lasting change. This pioneering social research study on the protection of pangolins in Zambia marks an important step forward in wildlife conservation. #WCPZambia #ProtectthePangolins #CommunityDrivenChange #WildlifeConservation

Recently, WCP’s legal team conducted a two-day human rights training in Nyimba and Petauke districts, Eastern Province to empower community scouts and wildlife police officers. With 36 participants, including Senior Rangers, Wildlife Police Officers, and Community Scouts, the sessions fostered collaboration and shared learning among Zambia’s conservation law enforcement heroes. The training focused on Zambia’s legal framework, covering the Wildlife Act, Forest Act, Firearms Act, and Fisheries Act, and emphasised the critical role of human rights in law enforcement. Participants left with a renewed commitment to protect wildlife while upholding human dignity and rights. Furthering WCP’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement in conservation by building a future where conservation and justice go hand in hand. #WCJ #LawEnforcement #ConservationHeroes #ZambiaWildlife #HumanRights

Behind every impactful story is a journalist empowered with the right skills. Through its Environmental Crime Journalism (ECJ) fellowship, WCP Zambia recently hosted a 5-day Investigative Journalism Training, facilitated by Makanday. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening local journalists’ capacity to expose environmental crimes and drive meaningful change. The training featured: - Sessions with the Drug Enforcement Commission on the intersection of law enforcement and environmental crimes. - Insights from the Anti-Corruption Commission Zambia on addressing corruption-related cases. - Practical exercises in investigative journalism, interviewing techniques, media law, ethics, and fact-checking. - Training on using the E-Government portal for accessing crucial information. We are proud to support the next generation of investigative journalists in addressing critical environmental issues. #InvestigativeJournalism #EnvironmentalCrime #WCPZambia #CapacityBuilding #SustainableFuture
