Did you Know? The Thornicroft giraffe is endemic to the South Luangwa National Park. Listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, only 600 animals exist and are primarily threatened by habitat loss and poaching. They can be identified by the lack of patterned markings below the knee and are a bit smaller than other giraffe species. They are usually found close to the river. They rub themselves against Rain trees ( Philenoptera Violaceae) to release chemicals that kill any parasites on their bodies. Image credit @shafeeq_mulla
