Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has arrived on our screens, and to celebrate, Disney and the Lion Recovery Fund are relaunching the #ProtectThePride campaign. 🦁🌍 This important initiative will fund conservation efforts to restore lion populations, protect their habitats, and build a future where lions and communities thrive together. As a proud partner of the Lion Recovery Fund, the Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) is committed to supporting these vital efforts to safeguard Africa’s iconic lions. ZCP also proudly supported the development of free teaching and learning resources about the protection of lions, created by Cool.org by supplying photos, data and stories to them, contributing to the #ProtectThePride campaign. Congratulations to ZCP and Musekese Conservation Alumni Ruth Kabwe on her new position as Project Manager for our partner the Painted Wolf Foundation ! Ruth has worked intensively on painted wolves as an Ecologist with both ZCP and Musekese Conservation in the Greater Kafue Ecosystem. She started as a mentee in ZCP’s Women in Wildlife Conservation Training Programme before becoming a mentor and leader herself, and recently received her Postgraduate Diploma in International Wildlife Conservation Practice at Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit WildCRU We are so proud of Ruth and look forward to continuing to work together to conserve this endangered species!

Whilst this cheetah is yawning, we are excited that today is International Cheetah Day! 🐾 In Liuwa Plain National Park this tired male takes a moment to rest. Female cheetahs are solitary, but it is unusual for a male cheetah to live alone. Male cheetahs often live in groups, called coalitions, of two or more individuals. Coalitions are usually made up of brothers, but this cheetah is in a coalition with an unrelated male, who are strongly bonded and cooperate to hunt together and defend their territory. Our satellite data suggests that this coalition met up with a female that recently wandered into their territory… perhaps we will see some cubs on the way soon! 📸 credits: Lucky Chama - ZCP #zcp_org #zcp_zambia #zambiancarnivoreprogramme #wildlifeconservation #nature #natureconservation #conservationinaction #conservationresearch #coexistence #research #zambia #africa #saveanimals #liuwaplain #cheetah #internationalcheetahday

Today is Giving Tuesday! This holiday season, as we celebrate the spirit of giving, you can make a lasting impact by helping us protect Zambia’s carnivores. We would love to hear from you if you have any old, working equipment hiding away in a cupboard, or if you are able to contribute funds to help us purchase essential equipment. We are specifically looking for DSLRs, lens, binoculars, or point-and-shoot cameras, and your generosity will help with the collection of vital conservation data, training of future conservationists and the sharing of our work with people like you! To donate your old equipment, please sent it to: Daan Smit (ZCP) Montana State University Ecology Department – 310 Lewis Hall PO Box 173460 Bozeman, MT 59717 Or to make a donation please click here: https://lnkd.in/dMWff_kC For international or Zambian equipment donations, contact: emma@zambiacarnivores.org 📸 credits: Eric Njobvu and Kachama Banda ZCP

Congratulations to the 2024 Aspiring Conservation Leaders who have officially graduated from the Aspiring Conservation Leadership Programme at Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust | Zambia ! We welcomed the students to join us at ZCP for 2 weeks earlier in the year to learn about our activities and programmes and to gain valuable hands-on field experience such as carnivore tracking and community outreach work. They now have a strong foundation in conservation ecology because of their perseverance, teamwork, and dedication to learning. Congratulations once again to all 11 graduating students for successfully completing the programme #zcp_org #zcp_zambia #zambiancarnivoreprogramme #wildlifeconservation #nature #natureconservation #conservationinaction #conservationresearch #coexistence #research #zambia #africa #saveanimals

These 3 cubs were spotted on an early morning den visit by our Liuwa team, waiting patiently for their mothers to come back from hunting. Hyenas are known for being great mothers and produce rich fatty milk to feed their cubs. Cubs are able to eat small amounts of meat at approximately 5 months of age but rely on nursing from their mothers until they are over a year old. Hyenas will often keep their cubs in communal dens for protection whilst they are rearing their young, meaning there can be multiple litters of cubs in the same den at once. There are a total of 12 cubs in this clan this year, making this one of the most successful dens this season. 📸 credit: Lucky Chama #zcp_org #zcp_zambia #zambiancarnivoreprogramme #wildlifeconservation #nature #natureconservation #conservationinaction #conservationresearch #Liuwa #coexistence #research #zambia #africa #saveanimals

🦁📸 Our holiday campaign is on-going! 🎥🐆 Thank you so much everyone who has donated equipment and funds so far! Do you have a DSLR, lens, an old pair of binoculars or a point-and-shoot camera collecting dust in your cupboard looking for a new home? If so, we would love for Zambia to be that new home! Your old equipment helps us: 🔸 Gather crucial conservation data 🔸 Train future conservationists 🔸 Inspire others through powerful visuals To donate, please send to: Daan Smit (ZCP) Montana State University Ecology Department - 310 Lewis Hall PO Box 173460 Bozeman, MT 59717 If you wish to donate from another country, or from within Zambia, please contact us at emma@zambiacarnivores.org 📸 credits: Eric Njobvu - ZCP

The annual wild dog denning season has come to an end across Zambia, and after approximately three months at a den the pups are getting eager to travel with the pack! However, it’s the pack, not the pups, that decides when they’re ready, as it’s a risky time for pups when they first venture out. Prior to leaving the den there are many “false starts” when the pups attempt to go but get turned back, as seen in this video! 🎥 credits: Reuben Kabungo - ZCP #zcp_org #zcp_zambia #zambiancarnivoreprogramme #wildlifeconservation #nature #natureconservation #conservationinaction #conservationresearch #coexistence #research #zambia #africa #saveanimals #wilddogs

This holiday season, support ZCP by donating your gently used, working cameras or binoculars! 🌍📸🐆🦁 Every day, our field teams at Zambian Carnivore Programme work tirelessly to monitor, research, and protect Zambia’s lions, wild dogs, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas, as well as giraffes and other herbivores. As a non-profit, we rely on more than just a passion for conservation; we need high-quality equipment to capture data accurately, document wildlife behaviours, and stay vigilant across vast landscapes. Your old cameras or binoculars could help us spot a wild dog pack, identify a pride of lions, or document key moments that inform our strategies to safeguard these species. Donated equipment empowers our teams with the resources they need to make a meaningful difference every day. To donate, please send your equipment to: Daan Smit (ZCP) Montana State University Ecology Department - 310 Lewis Hall Po Box 173460 Bozeman, MT 59717 Please let us know if you have sent a parcel to us by emailing daan@zambiacarnivores.org Or visit our donation page (https://lnkd.in/dMWff_kC) to send money for new equipment. Every donation makes a difference—thank you for your generosity! 🐾 **Please note, the University is closed between 12th December and January 16th so sending before/after these dates is advised** 📸 credits: Emma Kennedy - ZCP
