I had a great time discussing “the role of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in the implementation and success of the AfCFTA” with the good people of Global Shapers Harare Hub. Conversations like this trigger my hope for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). As critical pillars of the AfCFTA, the milestones of the RECs provide valuable lessons for the AfCFTA’s implementation and ultimate success. Thank you Global Shapers Community, Panashe Pemhiwa, Teslyne Ashley, and Tanatsiwa Dambuza. Wishing you all the best with the One Africa Project 🎉 #trade #afcfta #regionalintegration #africa

𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. ''As we look ahead, a healthy SME sector is vital for the economic recovery of African countries, where SMEs often make up more than 90% of all enterprises, significantly contributing towards inclusive economic growth. Sub-Saharan Africa alone has 44m micro, small and medium enterprises. ..... SMEs are responsible for an estimated 𝟖𝟎% of jobs across the continent. '' - https://lnkd.in/d8t5nzUj. As part of the 2024 #ShapeAfrica summit, I had the privilege of being on the panel on “Reskilling for the Future - The Future of SMEs in Africa” co-hosted by the Global Shapers Community Sub-Sahara Regional team led by Raissa K. and the African Union Office of the Youth Envoy, led by HE Chido Cleopatra Mpemba. This panel aimed to explore "practical pathways to empower African youth for leadership, management, and entrepreneurship within the SME sector, by providing expert insights on essential skills for business success, including financial literacy, resource management, and the strategic use of technology", with emphasis on developing a capacity-building framework that equips young Africans to thrive in an evolving business landscape, fostering sustainable growth and economic resilience. This panel, which was excellently led and moderated by Amged B. Shwehdy, a Digital Transformation specialist, was full of practical insights from my fellow panellists; Melvyn Lubega, an award-winning Technology Entrepreneur behind one of Africa's Unicorns and Diane Akuffo, a seasoned entrepreneur and business strategist who has raised $1.5mil+. What is no secret is this - SMEs are key to driving the growth of Africa. https://lnkd.in/dpN99xnQ. For Africa to move forward, we need to empower SMEs with not only the skills of tomorrow but also the skills of today. Whilst we prepare and position ourselves for the 4th Industrial Revolution, we need to concurrently close the gaps in infrastructure today! The future of SMEs in Africa is bright and promising. Young entrepreneurs and business leaders need to tap into mentorship, networking and continued learning to succeed. Let's continue to invest in reskilling for today and tomorrow! #development #impact #youth #africa #community #economy #digitaleconomy #climate #reskilling #SMEs #entrepreneurship #foodsystems #africanfoodsystems #trade #tradefinance #agribusiness #agroindustry #tradedevelopment Global Shapers Harare Hub

On Saturday, November 30th, as Global Shapers Harare Hub under our SafeSurf Team led by Tafadzwa Dhumukwa, in collaboration with Youth In Action Association, Thalitha Together, and Global Shapers Mvurwi hosted a remarkable event at Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Innovation Hub in Harare. We provided sanitary kits, including pads, bathing materials, and baby clothes, to 40 teen mothers. In addition to these essential donations, the teen mothers received valuable training on navigating the digital era safely and raising their children in a positive environment. We were honored to have several guest speakers, including Laurance Sithole and Tendai Sithole, who shared insights on financial intelligence and the importance of starting small businesses to sustain themselves and their children. Mental health and the well-being of these vulnerable groups are crucial. Our Curator, Krystal Mtasa, a professional in mental health awareness, was also present to emphasize the importance of mental health, especially given the low access to mental health services in Zimbabwe. With only two psychiatric hospitals and one psychiatrist for every one million people, the vast majority of Zimbabwe's 14 million population, including the 67.8% living in rural areas, have limited access to mental health care, according to the World Health Organization. We are committed to raising awareness and providing support to help them thrive in various spaces. #Empowerment #YouthInAction #DigitalSafety #MentalHealth #CommunitySupport Global Shapers Community Global Shapers Mvurwi Krystal Mtasa Tafadzwa Dhumukwa Ondela Mlandu Raissa K.

I had the absolute honour and privilege of attending #ShapeAfrica 2024 Edition, a regional workshop under the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. It was recently held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, #Ethiopia, hosted by Global Shapers Community's Africa region led by Raissa K. in partnership with the African Union Special Youth Envoy led by HE Chido Cleopatra Mpemba. Held under the theme, "#Upskilling for #Africa's Development", the workshop brought together young leaders from across #Africa and #MENA to spotlight #young Africans who are taking action and creating more space for youth to be active participants in Africa’s development. I had the specific honour of being one of the speakers in the sessions titled "Empowering Africa’s Future: Youth-Led Innovation for Sustainable Food Systems" were we launched the exciting new continental initiative, The African Food Alliance (TAFA), founded by Adam Amoussou alongside my fellow panellist Nyifamu Ogechi Manzo, MBA, as well as the session on "#Reskilling for the Future: The Future of #SME's in Africa", wherein we explored practical pathways to empower African youth for leadership, management, and entrepreneurship within the SME sector alongside my fellow panelists, Diane Akuffo, Melvyn Lubega, which Amged B. Shwehdy excellently moderated. I will be sharing more in my reflections on these sessions in the coming weeks. To add, the #HighLevelTownhall on the "Panel of the #Future" highlighted not only the great initiatives happening across the continent driven by the youth, but more-so the work still to be done In moving the continent forward. The other exciting sessions held were on #mentalhealth, #afcfta, #climateaction, making Africa #digital, enabling youth in #civicengagement as well as delivering basic needs: managing #disasters and building resilience. As an Alumni, what made this #ShapeAfrica more special was attending it with fellow hub members from the Global Shapers Harare Hub, Curator Krystal Mtasa, John Dongo and Yolanda Lifa, fellow alumni, Tiri Madzima as well MBA alumni from the ALUSB MBA, Tinashe Nondo, MBA and Nomqhele Samantha Siziba from the Global Shapers Bulawayo hub. Empowering Sustainable Agribusiness in Zimbabwe 🌎🌱 Through our EmpowerAgri Project under Climate Change, we are proud to promote sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices in Zimbabwe. We were honored to participate in an Exhibition event hosted by Hivos Zimbabwe under the theme “SPARK MY URBAN CITY GREEN” and we took this opportunity to showcase the innovative businesses we support. This platform gave us the opportunity to spotlight these enterprises, increasing their visibility in Zimbabwe and beyond borders. Our aim is to inspire a meaningful shift towards sustainable, climate-smart agribusiness practices that not only transform local communities but also create a global ripple effect. At the exhibition, EAgro/CropFix, led by its founder Tafadzwa Ronald Chikwereti PMP® showcased its innovative AI-driven platform. The platform provides hyper-local insights, personalized action plans, and predictive analytics to tackle real-time crop management challenges. This provides access to accurate weather predictions and soil information for adaptive practices. Also featured was Eny's Treats Multi-Seed Bar founded by Tracy Vongai Mapfumo. This venture addresses the impacts of erratic rainfall and climate change on food security by promoting drought-tolerant crops and crafting innovative, nutritious snacks to encourage their use. With the visibility and funding opportunities provided by this platform, we look forward to seeing these businesses grow and make a lasting impact. As much as we exhibited, we got to interact with different agribusiness and know more on them fostering partnership. Together, we can champion the future of climate-resilient agriculture! 💡 #EmpowerAgri #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateSmart #AgribusinessInnovation #Hivos #ClimateAction Global Shapers Harare Hub

Global Shapers Community hosted its Shape Africa 2024 event from November 14th to 16th in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the African Union headquarters, under the theme "Upskilling for Africa's Development." This event aimed to empower the next generation of African leaders to drive positive change. According to the African Union, Africa is home to the world's largest youth population, with over 400 million young people between the ages of 15 and 35, and more than 60% of Africa's population is under the age of 25. However, a 2023 publication by the International Labour Organization highlights that more than 72 million youth in Africa are not in education, employment, or training – the majority of them being young women. During the three-day Shape Africa event, four of our Shapers – our Curator Krystal Mtasa, Secretary Yolanda Lifa, past Vice Curator John Dongo, and alumni Kudzai M. – addressed some of these concerns of African youth. They discussed topics such as the impact of climate change on the mental health of youths in Africa, protecting the planet through empowering Africa's green future, navigating technology's impact on psychological well-being, and the future of SMEs in Africa under reskilling for the future.
