ORAP Zimbabwe
Non-profit Organizations
A Zimbabwean grassroots based NGO with a mission to eradicate poverty.
About us
The Organisation of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP) exists to fight all forms of poverty, principally among the rural communities of women, men and youth through the empowerment of people by facilitating their development in their cultural context. ORAP envisions empowered grassroots communities free of hunger and poverty, where the disadvantaged communities of women, men and youth should draw up their own plans and uplift themselves relying mainly on their own intellect and available resources. The philosophy revolves around the core concept of Zenzele, which stems from the African saying "Akusimuntu ongasimuntu walutho" - "There is nobody who has no purpose”. Zenzele is thus a development process of self-discovery and self-mobilization administered by the self—not solely for the benefit of self but also for the development of others. This concept guides and threads through everything that ORAP does and is evident everywhere and anywhere ORAP operates.

Earlier this November, ORAP Zimbabwe, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and various schools in Bubi and uMguza Districts welcomed representatives from Mary's Meals to monitor the Schools Feeding Programs. The promise of a nutritious meal draws hungry children into the classroom, providing them with the opportunity to receive an education and improve their future prospects. These meals enable children to attend school and give them the energy to focus and engage in their studies. Our photographer had an easy task, as the subjects were eager to pose for the camera as seen in the images. #orapzenzele #onemealaday #schoolnutrition #SchoolFeedingProgram USAID Mavambo Orphan Care World Food Programme Plan International

November marks Men’s Health Awareness Month, a period dedicated to emphasizing the significance of men’s health and promoting proactive health measures. This month aims to raise awareness about crucial health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. It serves as a reminder for men to prioritize regular check-ups, embrace healthier lifestyles, and seek early treatment for any health concerns. By fostering education and open discussions, we strive to reduce the stigma surrounding men’s health issues and support our male colleagues in leading healthier, happier lives. Let’s use this opportunity to encourage the men in our lives to take charge of their health! #MensHealthAwareness #Novembermovement #ORAPCares #leavingnomanbehindnovember #zenzele

The event saw participation from various Associations, including those from Gwanda, Bubi, Bulilima, uMguza, uMzingwane, Lupane, and Tsholotsho. This comprehensive training served as a refresher course covering the organizational constitution, GAA Executive roles and responsibilities, office management, leadership knowledge and skills, financial management, and effective communication, among other topics. This initiative exemplifies ORAP’s commitment to continuous improvement across all operational areas, from members to staff. To recognize their dedication, all attendees received certificates upon completing the training. #ZENZELE #ZIQHENYE #ZIMELE

Community Visioning and Nutrition & Health Technical Field Officers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, supported the women of Donga Village in Ward 24, Binga District, in a skills-sharing activity beginning of October. This initiative followed the Women in Leadership (WIL) training, where the women expressed that previous skills training by Amalima Loko and Silveira House had only targeted youths (18-35). The officers encouraged the women to share their skills within the ward to ensure inclusivity. Amalima Loko is funded by USAID - US Agency for International Development in a program whose consortium is led by Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) The initiative was well-received, leading to the creation of a WhatsApp group for WIL. The women contributed to purchasing ingredients for baking and jam-making. Donga Village boasts various skills, including jam and soap making, producing carbonated drinks, preservation techniques, and baking. In this activity, 23 women, including 5 youths, shared their jam-making and baking skills. They baked plain buns using pit ovens and made tamarind and tomato jams. We applaud these women for their initiative and dedication to learning and sharing skills. There is much to learn from the women of Donga Village.
