Jane Zibusiso Nkiwane and Ashlee Nhliziyo our wonderful steering committee members, were among the attendees at the launch of Creative Catalysts: Women's Artistic Voices to Climate Change. This impactful anthology was born from the Climate Action Haven roundtable, curated by SKILL A Community, an organization dedicated to empowering communities and raising awareness about climate action. The anthology features the voices of 15 young women leading the charge against climate change. In the anthology, Jane Nkiwane contributed a compelling short story titled A Feast of Hope, which delves into the social impacts of the El Niño-induced drought on a rural community. Through her writing, Jane seeks to raise awareness about the urgent need for climate action and the potential solutions for resilience. The event was a vibrant celebration of creativity and collaboration. Our Steering Committee member and Founding Director of Innovation Village for Young African Minds -IVYAM official, Tapiwa Chimbadzwa, took part in the 2nd Youth Forum on Adaptation Finance in Africa (#YOFAFA24). This included an intensive four-week online program followed by a three-day immersive forum in Cameroon centered on the complexities of Green Climate Fund grant writing processes. Tapiwa shared that this experience was incredibly enriching, equipping him with valuable grant writing skills while providing deep insights into crucial intersections, particularly the nexus between energy access, health, conflict, and development. The timing of the program was particularly relevant, coinciding with #COP29, which highlights finance as its central theme. For young people dedicated to building a more resilient future, grasping the current landscape of climate finance and funding mechanisms is vital for driving meaningful change. #IamZYBN #sustainability #climatechange #biodiversity #PeaceWithNature #ClimateFinance #youthvoices #youthintoaction

The Zimbabwe Youth Biodiversity Network is participating in the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 16) taking place in Cali, Colombia from 21 October - 1 November 2024. Under the theme Peace with Nature, this will be the first Biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). At COP 16, governments will be tasked with reviewing the state of implementation of the KMGBF. Parties to the Convention are expected to show the alignment of their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the Framework. COP16 will further develop the monitoring framework and advance resource mobilization for the Global Biodiversity Framework. Among other tasks, COP16 is also due to finalize and operationalize the multilateral mechanism on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources. During these two weeks of events and negotiations, #ZYBN will participate and speak in various side events and we are calling for ambitious outcomes at #CoP16, including decisions that demonstrate political will to tackle our interlinked planetary crises through the #KMGBF. Although attendance at COP16 is mainly in-person, UN web TV is live broadcasting many sessions.
