Suicide & Redemption Lyrics
About
“Suicide & Redemption” is the ninth track on 2008’s Death Magnetic and the first instrumental track Metallica has done since “To Live is to Die” from 1988’s …And Justice for All. At 9:59, it is the longest song in the album and was the longest original composition in the rest of their studio discography until the release of the album 72 Seasons, with the track being topped by “Inamorata”, which is 11:10.
When the whole album was released on the Guitar Hero series of rhythm games, it contained two versions of this track, each with a different guitar solo corresponding to the initials of the guitarist that performed it. One was labeled “J.H.” for James Hetfield, the other “K.H.” for Kirk Hammett. The solo found in the studio version contains the first halves of James' solo and Kirk’s solo.
It’s notable for being the first (and so far, only) track where drummer Lars Ulrich performs a drum solo.
