Red With Love Lyrics
You tell me you need me, I ask you why
You kiss me so sweetly, it gets me high
The sunlight through my window pane illuminates your face
I need you closer and you’re not even an inch away
[Chorus]
What you want is what I want and
I can't seem to get enough
It makes me sweat
You're in my head
It turns me red with love
[Post-Chorus]
I need you
I need you
I need you close
Promise me you'll never let it go
[Verse 2]
Oh honey, it haunts me to see you go
I feel your hands on me when I’m alone
When you come home, you call my name
Believe me when I say
Tomorrow I will love you more than I did yesterday
What you want is what I want and
I can't seem to get enough
It makes me sweat
You're in my head
It turns me red with love
[Post-Chorus]
I need you
I need you
I need you close
Promise me you'll never let it
Promise me you'll never let it
Promise me you'll never let it go
About
Red With Love is the eighth track from Death of a Cheerleader by Pom Pom Squad. It was also one of the first singles to be released for the song. This song is lyrically one of the more straight forward love songs from the band.
The music video was the last music video made independently before signing to the Indie label City Slang shortly afterwards.
This single version of this song was recorded the exact same day as their cover of Cellophane originally by FKA Twigs.
With this song being released as a single right around the time of their single for the cover of Crimson and Clover and these two songs following each other on the albums official tracklist. These two songs are supposed to be related to each other thematically, or accompanying tracks made with the intent to compliment each other. The similar track names are another connection. Crimson being a shade of red. A linking verb as the second word in each song title that combines one idea with another (And, With) and the last word of one title has the other last word of the next title self contained inside of it. You take out the first and last letter in the word Clover and you get ‘love’. Crimson-Red, And-With, C(Love)r. When describe the relation of these two songs Mia had this to say:
(Red With Love) is the full flamboyant embrace of your sexuality that comes from pushing through the “Crimson + Clover”-wall-of-fear. I felt like this song fit the story,
The title is also in reference to the act of blushing, an idea reinforced by the lyrics. Being in love tends to enact blushing which causes your face to turn red from the excitement causing your blood to rush to the surface of your skin. This effectively would make you Red With Love. As well as the color red generally being symbolic for love with it being represented through hearts, lips(kissing), and ofcourse blushing and other things.
The album version of the song and the single version are much different atleast as far as vocals. Since the music video/singles version for one the song was re-recorded since they were able to work in a more professional setting for the album version, as opposed to the single version since the band got signed to a label in between the release of both versions. Secondly, Mia said she was intending on re-recording the song anyways since, at the time that she recorded the single version, she was dealing with an issue with her nostrils that made her unable to breathe through then. This caused her voice to sound-in her own words-screlty, and she couldn’t stand to hear that version. She had since gotten corrective surgery on her nose to fix this breathing issue and enabled her to sing fluidly with her mouth while being able to control her breath better. “Red with Love” is my first-ever love song. It’s about all-encompassing love — the kind of early love that makes you fall in love with everything around you. Also, the full flamboyant embrace of your sexuality that comes from pushing through the “Crimson + Clover”-wall-of-fear. I felt like this song fit the story, but selfishly, I also wanted to redo the vocals. I recorded the single version of “Red With Love” and our cover of “Cellophane” on the same day, shortly before I found out that I needed to get a corrective surgery for a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates that prevented me from breathing through my nose. When I try to describe this to people they’re like, “So…a rhinoplasty?”, But that isn’t the case, as I was born with my mother’s perfect nose.
Either way, I can’t listen to the single version (or “Cellophane” for that matter), since all I hear is myself screlting for my life. I worked on this song for weeks with my vocal coach before going into the studio and still felt intense insecurity about recording it when I got behind the mic. I called City Slang that day and begged them to let me cut it from the record. They encouraged me to finish it and I’m glad I did. To me, this version sounds like flying through pillowy clouds on the wings of an angel.
