“TRICK” is an album released by Alex G which was released November 5th, 2008.

Alex G seemingly tells two different stories at once, one of these stories being about a pet owner that is going back on memories with their deceased pet.

However, there are a few substance abuse references scattered throughout the album.
Examples of these references:

“I get sick when I get stoned” – Animals

“I do believe you’re moving at a pace
A little bit too slow for my taste” – String

I took my favorite pill on Monday, it made me go backwards
Do you wanna feel good?
I made a special drink for myself and I’m gonna drink it
All by myself" – People

These are just a few examples of the many substance abuse references within this album.

Considering that the storyline is in the perspective of a pet owner reflecting on past memories of their pet while also doing a little self-reflection while they are at it combined with the substance abuse references, it is almost apparent that this album is in the perspective of somebody who is struggling with substance abuse.
