M3LL155X (or ‘Melissa’) is the third EP released by FKA twigs, following the release of her debut album LP1 and two previous EPs. It came out August 13, accompanied by a 16 minute video described as “an aggressive statement conceptualising the process of feeling pregnant with pain, birthing creativity and liberation.”
In an interview with Complex, she announced the name of the extended play, as well as the tracklist. She also talked about how the name came about:
The EP is called Melissa, and ‘Melissa’ to me is my personal female energy. I’ve never called it ‘Melissa’ before the EP. It’s not a weird alter ego. It’s just my way of separating it from myself.
The EP was finished in a “spontaneous creative period” immediately following the completion of LP1.
In the US, M3LL155X debuted and peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200 chart with 7,000 units sold in its first week.
The album also peaked at #2 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, charting for a total of thirteen weeks.
