The Future Tracklist
The Future is Guy’s sophomore album and the follow up to their eponymous June 1988 album. Released under Uptown Records and MCA Records, the album marks the first album with Damion Hall following Timmy Gatling’s departure in 1988. The album is also the group’s last album before a 10-year hiatus.
The Future peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 chart and topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album is also certified Platinum.
The Future sees lead vocals shared between Aaron Hall and Teddy Riley, with Riley refusing to sing on the second half of the album due to aggrievances with their then-manager Gene Griffin. In a February 2000 interview for Vibe Magazine, Aaron Hall said:
There came a time where I just did not want to sing a single note. To be honest, it was the money. It just became too depressing. We were the biggest group in the world and we were flat broke. It took its toll.
The Future spawned 5 singles, “Wanna Get With U,” “Let’s Chill,” “Do Me Right,” “D-O-G Me Out,” “Her,” and “Let’s Stay Together.” All singles charted in the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart, with “Do Me Right” peaking at #2.
