SubTRAP

In an interview with No Label at Harvard University IDK spoke about how his jail time helped him shape the project:

I asked a lot of questions and cared about everybody there, you know what I mean? Like, I cared about that life, how it was outside of you know, jail and everything like that. So, in the midst of that, I didn’t know I was doing it but I was gaining information to create SubTRAP. So, it just really came organically, I was just curious, you know. I would talk to people who were heroin addicts, I had a cellmate that was a heroin addict, actually, and he, that was when I first got locked up and we were transported to prison and he was my cellmate and he was tryin' to kick it, he was going to withdrawals and he would like wake up in the middle of the night cryin' and stuff. And like not even knowing though, he’s sleeping but he’s crying. A lot of different things that I realized I was asking all these questions like, “Yo, why this?” “Why that?” “How do you feel right now?” I was just getting information for something that I was gonna do later but I didn’t realize it. So, when I put that project together I kinda wanted to touch back in that part of my life.
