Born in Anyang, South Korea on January 16, 1996, Jennie Kim (제니 김) is a South Korean singer, rapper, and dancer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, debuted in 2016 under the talent agency YG Entertainment.
During her childhood, she lived in Auckland, New Zealand, and studied at ACG Parnell College before she joined YG as a trainee in August of 2010. She was first revealed to the public on April 10, 2012, with a Who’s That Girl? teaser. On August 31, 2012, she was introduced as a trainee in the YG Life website, showing her rap performance of B.o.B’s “Strange Clouds.” The next day, YG artist G-Dragon released his song “THAT XX,” which featured Jennie on its music video.
On January 20, 2013, Jennie was officially introduced as a YG artist with a performance of Wale’s “Lotus Flower Bomb.” In the following months, Jennie was featured in Lee Hi’s “Special” (March 7), Seungri’s “GG BE” (August 19), and G-Dragon’s “Black” (September 2). After that, she had her first live performances promoting her single with G-Dragon.
On May 31, 2016, YG released a teaser for their new girl group BLACKPINK, featuring Jennie Kim as the first official member.
On November 12, 2018, Jennie debuted as a solo artist with her single “SOLO,” which became the most streamed song by a Korean solo artist in Spotify on October 15, 2020. Following BLACKPINK’s BORN PINK world tour, JENNIE released her second solo single, “You & Me” in 2023.
Jennie starred in the HBO Original Series The Idol as the character Dyanne. Along with the series, JENNIE, Lily-Rose Depp & The Weeknd released the song “One Of Your Girls.”
