Justine Bateman & The Mystery is a fictional rock band created for the 1988 film Satisfaction.
The film served as a vehicle for actress Justine Bateman who at the time was on the successful sitcom Family Ties. Bateman took guitar and vocal lessons in preparation for the film, though all of the group’s tracks were played by session musicians. Despite her lack of vocal experience, Bateman sang lead on all but one of the nine songs attributed to the group on the soundtrack. Her co-star Britta Phillips (of Jem fame) sang lead on “Mr. Big Stuff” and provided backing vocals on all other tracks.
