Sir
Paul McCartney has joined a host of celebrities appearing on the charity single to honour victims of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.
The legendary former Beatle joins the likes of Robbie Williams , Sporty Spice Melanie C and X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson for the track, which will be a cover of He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother by The Hollies.
The single will be released on December 17 and will be in direct competition with whoever wins this year’s series of The X Factor in the race for Christmas No.1.
Other artists lending their vocal talents to the track include Paloma Faith, Squeeze’s Glenn Tillbrook and Mick Jones of The Clash.
All artists involved with the song gave their time for free.
He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother will serve to pay tribute to the some 96 Liverpool supporters who died at an FA Cup semi-final between their team and Nottingham Forest at the Hillsborough stadium in April 1989.
All proceeds will go towards covering the legal costs of the families of those killed in the disaster.
The X Factor winner will have their work cut out trying to top the charts in the festive period, with the series final of the show taking place on December 9 resulting in the winning single being released a week earlier than it has done in previous years.
Last year, winners Little Mix were beaten to the top spot by Military Wives.
