Will Twilight and Sweeney Todd star Jamie Bower be returning to the Potter universe to play Grindlewald?
exclusive 6 things we learned from being at the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them fan eventWith the release of the JK Rowling’s new blockbuster Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them just around the corner, rumours of which characters we will meet along the way are beginning to spread.
One of these includes Grindelwald, whose rivalry/friendship/love with Dumbledore is hinted at in the books, and brought to life by Bower for just a split second in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 film in a flashback.
According to the BBC News, whilst at a fan event in London, Director, David Yates commented: ‘Grindelwald does feature in the background and is going to become a much more prominent feature moving forward.’
Rowling confirmed an insight into the dark wizard’s world too, by saying: ‘We do talk about Dumbledore and Grindelwald.’
Our wizard senses are tingling.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them follows magizoologist Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) adventures in New York City in the 1920s as he searches for magical creatures, whilst trying not to cause too much havoc on the way. The background story tells of Grindelwald and Dumbledore’s friendship which has been shattered as the story progresses.
Rowling has previously spoken about the close relationship between the two, adding that the Hogwarts headmaster, who she confirmed is gay, once had romantic feelings for the dark wizard.
Fans have their fingers crossed that we will meet a young Grindelwald and Dumbledore in the upcoming franchise.
Rowling said: ‘There are ways in which we connect to the Potter books, that I think people will find surprising.’
She continued: ‘They’re talking about the first time a wizard rose and threatened a world order. This was always where I was interested in going. This is what I wanted to do.’
