Liverpool have offered free agent Gael Clichy a two-year deal, according to reports.
The French left-back was released by Manchester City at the conclusion of the season and is currently weighing up his options.
The 31-year-old made 24 starts in the Premier League last season for a side that finished third in the Premier League, suggesting he’s still capable of operating at the top level.
The Sun report that the deal, which would run until 2019, would also have an option for an additional year.
The reported offer from Liverpool comes as Jurgen Klopp desperately seeks a new left-back. For the majority of last season he deployed midfielder James Milner in the position. While Milner excelled in the makeshift role, Klopp would rather a specialist to call upon.
His other option is Alberto Moreno, however there are serious doubts over the quality of the Spaniard’s defending.
Clichy has also been linked with Paris St Germain.
