Manchester United look to be in pole position to sign Cristiano Ronaldo if the wantaway forward does eventually leave Real Madrid.
The reports of his ‘irreversible’ decision to leave the Spanish and European champions have sent the rumour mill into overdrive.
But it’s not only the Portuguese star that United have identified as a key transfer target – there are said to be three more.
Overdrive could turn to full scale meltdown.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the potential signing of Ronaldo is just one of four key targets that would help Ed Woodward satisfy investors on the New York Stock Exchange.
The 32-year-old is said to be top of the list of ‘fantasy signings’ which includes Ronaldo’s Madrid teammate Gareth Bale, Barcelona forward Neymar and Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller.
All four players would offer the sort of glitz that would instantly translate into commercial success off the field – but they would also help to transform United’s performances on the pitch.

Previous attempts to sign Ronaldo since he departed in 2009 have all failed and the last summer Woodward really tried to sign him – in 2013 – as well as Bale and Cesc Fabregas, the club actually ended up with Marouane Fellaini.
But for all of Woodward’s failings in the transfer market, you certainly cannot accuse him of lacking ambition.
